Mom of two, Former tax lawyer. I hope men, especially justices, when in need of emergency care, have a moment of panic thinking “Wait they’re not going to let me get close to death before they treat, are they?” It will only be a moment, “oh that’s women”

If you accept that non-citizens have no right to due process, you are accepting that citizens have no right to due process. All the government has to do is claim that you are not a citizen; without due process you have no chance to prove the contrary.

Implying that DEI requires compromising high standards is very clearly accepting the premise that straight, cis, able-bodied white men are the best at everything.

Stop doing it.

When I was a Hill staffer in 2009, a Dem trifecta was trying to pass universal healthcare. In response, Senate GOP released a memo detailing all of the tactics they in the minority could use to delay the effort as much as possible. I'm recirculating that 2009 GOP memo here. Take inspiration from it.

A truly horrifying Monday.

In tonight’s Law Dork, I tried to inform about the anti-trans and anti-diversity military executive orders — and also capture the spirit of why Monday, writ large, was so bad.

Here it is: www.lawdork.com/p/trump-mali...

And that's the smallest cost. Recall that Trump was impeached the first time for withholding Congressionally-approved military aid to Ukraine. That caused people to die. Money withheld for PEPFAR will cause people to die. Those people don't come back to life when the the funding restarts.

Auschwitz was at the end of a long process. It did not start from gas chambers.

This hatred was gradually developed by humans. From ideas, words, stereotypes & prejudice through legal exclusion, dehumanization & escalating violence... to systematic and industrial murder.

Auschwitz took time.

This is paradoxically a little easier to do in an area where there’s an overwhelming consensus, because most legal academics don’t find it either interesting or professionally beneficial to churn out articles saying “the view everyone’s considered obviously right for 130 years is still correct”

i was on the board of a housing first non-profit for about 10 years. we went from providing services and housing about ten people to hundreds. it's the most obvious approach and people fight against it for ~reasons~

you solve homelessness by putting people in homes.
VA virtually solved the problem of veteran homelessness with a Housing First approach. Then the Trump administration abandoned HF and veteran homelessness started going up again. After which Biden reinstated HF, which again caused veteran homelessness to decline.
The kicker here is so important: "Veterans were the lone group among whom homelessness declined last year, the report found. That continues a long-term trend driven by bipartisan support for services and housing..." There are strategies for fixing this problem that have shown success.

it's also bullshit to reject pay raises and Democrats in particular should not shy away from them. It's getting close to impossible in many areas to afford homes in both DC and their home districts on that salary, keeping normal people from even being able to run for Congress.
Elon, who demanded Cybertrucks get built to "sub 10 micron accuracy," gets one of his central complaints about the spending bill completely wrong. Literally, off by a factor of 10 www.washingtonpost.com/business/202...
