If you accept that non-citizens have no right to due process, you are accepting that citizens have no right to due process. All the government has to do is claim that you are not a citizen; without due process you have no chance to prove the contrary.

When I was a Hill staffer in 2009, a Dem trifecta was trying to pass universal healthcare. In response, Senate GOP released a memo detailing all of the tactics they in the minority could use to delay the effort as much as possible. I'm recirculating that 2009 GOP memo here. In it, he said: The focus of this celebration invites a complacent belief that the vision of those who debated and compromised in Philadelphia yielded the "more perfect Union" it is said we now enjoy. I cannot accept this invitation, for I do not believe that the meaning of the Constitution was forever "fixed" at the Philadelphia Convention. Nor do I find the wisdom, foresight, and sense of justice exhibited by the Framers particularly profound. To the contrary, the government they devised was defective from the start, requiring several amendments, a civil war, and momentous social transformation to attain the system of constitutional government, and its respect for the individual freedoms and human rights, we hold as fundamental today. When contemporary Americans cite "The Constitution," they invoke a concept that is vastly different from what the Framers barely began to construct two centuries ago. And yet, by Trump’s order, the speech is out.

Trump maligns trans service members, diversity, learning in discriminatory EOs. Just some of Trump's final moves in a day apparently aimed at wrecking American government and harming those who rely on federal grants or foreign aid.

And that's the smallest cost. Recall that Trump was impeached the first time for withholding Congressionally-approved military aid to Ukraine. That caused people to die. Money withheld for PEPFAR will cause people to die. Those people don't come back to life when the the funding restarts.

This hatred was gradually developed by humans. From ideas, words, stereotypes & prejudice through legal exclusion, dehumanization & escalating violence... to systematic and industrial murder.

Auschwitz took time.

i was on the board of a housing first non-profit for about 10 years. we went from providing services and housing about ten people to hundreds. it's the most obvious approach and people fight against it for ~reasons~

you solve homelessness by putting people in homes.

VA virtually solved the problem of veteran homelessness with a Housing First approach. Then the Trump administration abandoned HF and veteran homelessness started going up again. After which Biden reinstated HF, which again caused veteran homelessness to decline.

The kicker here is so important: "Veterans were the lone group among whom homelessness declined last year, the report found. That continues a long-term trend driven by bipartisan support for services and housing..." There are strategies for fixing this problem that have shown success.

it's also bullshit to reject pay raises and Democrats in particular should not shy away from them. It's getting close to impossible in many areas to afford homes in both DC and their home districts on that salary, keeping normal people from even being able to run for Congress.

He reposted a claim that the legislation includes a “40% pay raise for Congress,” calling it “unconscionable.” The DOGE account also said on X that the legislation would raise pay for members of Congress to $243,000, up from $174,000. It is unclear where that number came from. The legislation includes language allowing a 3.8 percent pay bump to take effect, which would result in a pay raise for lawmakers of $6,600 — far short of what Musk claimed, according to a statement from Rep. Jared Golden (D-Maine), who said he would oppose the bill because it allowed the pay raise. Congress has blocked its own cost-of-living allowance increases since 2009.
