So UK Labour decided to copy the horrendous immigration policy used by Denmark's Social Democrats, on the very day those Social Democrats were routed in elections and lost the mayoral position in Copenhagen. Copying fascism doesn't make you popular with antifascists.

You cannot ban people from working and take away their assets and their mobility and then argue it’s their fault if they cost the government money.

- safe routes
- legal work
- help people rebuild their lives

Our communities and our economy will be richer as a result.
I haven't got much to add to the general horror at Labour's migration plans, but the bizarre focus on ebikes as assets seems to serve - intentionally perhaps - to increase the stigmatisation of ebike riders (read: delivery drivers) still further and undermine migrants' everyday mobilities.

The clever thing about going for stuff like the cycle for work scheme is it’s really noticeable, affects people with lots of media access and platforms, annoys green groups, and raises almost no revenue at the same time. Real win/win/win there.

The situation in Sudan is horrific; war monitors have compared the level of violence in El Fasher to that of the start of the Rwandan genocide.

The international community cannot abide this.

Public transport investment usually has a return on investment of 4:1 (for every £1 invested, the economy grows by £4), but done well it can do even better than that

Great example here
IMPORTANT: The Dutch invest €595 million annually on urban biking, resulting in €19 BILLION saved in public health care costs alone. That’s how smart governments do the math on investing in better mobility.

Let’s be clear— it wastes public money to NOT do it.

This is the thing driving everything else
OBR to downgrade UK productivity.

UK at or near bottom of the OECD investment league for 30 yrs.

Problem: City has short term horizons, direct state investment neutered.

China invests 40.4% of GDP in productive assets, India 30.5%, UK 18.2%, OECD average 23%.

Must abandon neoliberal constraints.
OBR productivity forecast may add £20bn to Budget hole
The OBR is understood to have downgraded the UK's productivity level in early Budget forecasts

Massachusetts introduced a wealth tax in 2023

They raised $5.7B for public services

Despite the wealth tax, the number of millionaires increased by 40% 🤷

Despite previous concerns, Massachusetts' "millionaire's tax" hasn't seemed to deter high-earners from continuing to live here, according to a new study from the Institute for Policy Studies.
