Lean, Green but not very mean
As part of it's efforts to shift taxation away from workers and working class people, and towards wealth & the wealthy, the @greenparty.org.uk should argue in this month's budget to shift responsibility for Council Tax payments from residents to property owners

Active travel = a more successful economy

But more importantly, it means happier, healthier individuals and better functioning and connected communities, with cleaner air and less congestion

It really is all up side, with no real downside
A new UK report shows free bike programmes give £11.80 return for every £1 spent. Over 12,000 bikes provided so far, improving health, mental wellbeing, access to jobs and community ties - especially in disadvantaged areas.

Is it time to think bigger than cheap buses?

For this month's budget, the @greenparty.org.uk should make the case to shift VAT towards the luxury sector and away from local services

This would be another great example of taxing the wealthy, not the workers (and big corps, rather than small businesses)

VAT on luxuries, not on local services
The Greens should be making the case for shifting VAT towards the luxury sector

Labour were broken a long time ago.

Time to replace them with a party that actually represents everyone - not just the billionaires.

A party that rejects Reform - rather than copies them.

Time to make hope normal again.

When I said 'soon' I honestly didn't expect it to be about 2 hours later....
That only works if Labour are in second place. Soon they’ll probably be in 4th or 5th

If you want to vote tactically, vote for the party that will be in second place. That will probably be the Greens

Great thread from @georgemonbiot.bsky.social if you want to understand the strategy of the neoliberal 'left' and why it's a truly awful, pointless idea
1. The approach of mainstream Democrats is summed up in this astonishing February advice from the Democratic strategist James Carville:
“Roll over and play dead. Allow the Republicans to crumble beneath their own weight and make the American people miss us.”

People who bang on about ‘growth’ without any thought of its impact, should read this

The last 5 @moreincommonuk.bsky.social polls have put the @greenparty.org.uk at 8%, 9%, 10%, 11% and now 12%

Lower than other pollsters, but the same rapid upward trajectory

(it has Greens on just 8% in London, for example; wildly different from all others)

Slightly long article, but hopefully a helpful explanation of how opposition progressive parties can defeat Labour and prevent a Reform majority, at the same time

Spoiler: it doesn't involve any candidates standing down...

The government spends £2.7 BILLION a year on TAX BREAKS for oil and gas companies

Those companies pay billions to their shareholders

And then lay off their workers

Think that's unfair?

Tell Rachel Reeves to stop propping up oil and gas companies and back workers instead…

I don’t think Trump and the Republicans realise the impact on GDP and the economy generally of a prolonged government shutdown

The Federal Govt spends about £600bn per month. Any that money pumps resources across the economy

Public transport investment usually has a return on investment of 4:1 (for every £1 invested, the economy grows by £4), but done well it can do even better than that

Great example here
IMPORTANT: The Dutch invest €595 million annually on urban biking, resulting in €19 BILLION saved in public health care costs alone. That’s how smart governments do the math on investing in better mobility.

Let’s be clear— it wastes public money to NOT do it.

If anyone had said even a month ago that the @greenparty.org.uk would be in 2nd place in a Westminster poll I’d have thought they were delusional.

I know it’s only Find Out Now, but still an extraordinary moment
We're just getting started.

Time to lower bills. And tax billionaires.

If you want to see the Green Party take on Reform - this is the moment.

This is the thing driving everything else
OBR to downgrade UK productivity.

UK at or near bottom of the OECD investment league for 30 yrs.

Problem: City has short term horizons, direct state investment neutered.

China invests 40.4% of GDP in productive assets, India 30.5%, UK 18.2%, OECD average 23%.

Must abandon neoliberal constraints.
OBR productivity forecast may add £20bn to Budget hole
The OBR is understood to have downgraded the UK's productivity level in early Budget forecasts
