just got a podcast ad telling me I could "reimagine how I work with PDFs". is there a file format less associated with imagination than the PDF. this is like asking me to reimagine a hanging file folder or a stapler. why would I do that

My lack of surprise from another US city haunted by this administration doesn’t make the wretchedness of what’s going on in Charlotte any more palatable. As a teacher in South Carolina who counts some incredible Latinos as her students, I'm terrified for what their families are enduring.

This was an epic moment in television. They decided to make Snuffleupagus real at the advice of child psychologists who said children needed to know their parents would believe them if they told them about someone they knew doing things with them the parents didn’t know
[November 18th, 1985] In the Season 17 premiere of Sesame Street, Episode 2096, the adults on Sesame Street finally meet Mr. Snuffleupagus and realize he is real, not imaginary.

Elmo is also introduced as a new character.

i'd say it did. the public put a group of thieves, vandals and extremists in office last november and they promptly went about destroying everything that might work to limit their ability to loot, steal and inflicting pain on the people they hate
This whole NYT account about the weaponization of DOJ is beyond disturbing. Kinda feels like the US government fell in January.

I'm seeing people wonder why ICE is going after Charlotte.

ICE has been at war with Charlotte's sheriff ever since he won in 2018.

We'd covered this at Bolts back in the day; this quote is from that sheriff:
“When the 8 African American sheriffs took over the largest counties in North Carolina, it became a threat to the good ol’ boy system,” says the sheriff of Charlotte. These new sheriffs broke ties with ICE.

But GOP lawmakers cracked down this week, overbidding the governor’s veto to adopt this law:
North Carolina GOP Is Cracking Down on the Black Sheriffs Who Stood Up to ICE
Boosted by new supermajorities, Republicans are closing in on legislation to mandate more collaboration with ICE and preempt local policies hard-won by immigrants’ rights advocates.

I’m excited to try the giant pretzel at Hogwallers. The last one I had was so superior that I am measuring my expectations. The thing about Chicago you can get a delicious currywurst & giant pretzel then go see an Aussie punk band within a block. Unlikely it can live up to the one from that night.

Dem candidates need to be “it’s the economy stupid” all day, everyday. This regimes policies are a freaking nightmare for most Americans - every sector of our economy has been hit by immigration, tariff, & other weird decisions- Americans care about this a lot. Do not go on tangents.

I have made this point countless times but it is amazing how many truly blame children and teens under 18 for the abuse they suffer. My parents for instance thought nothing of my being out w/ grown men when I was a struggling pre-teen and a teen. I didn’t understand what statutory rape was. At all.

Hey Cville peeps: Starbucks union workers are ON STRIKE. Please go somewhere here else: we have LOTS of good locally owned coffee shops! Atlas Coffee, Grit, Cville Coffee, and JBird come to mind (not exhaustive, don’t @ me, but DO make other suggestions!).
As of this morning, Starbucks workers across the country are officially ON STRIKE. And we're prepared for this to become the biggest and longest ULP strike in Starbucks history.

Say #NoContractNoCoffee with us: DON'T BUY STARBUCKS for the duration of our open-ended ULP strike! $SBUX

you could fact check this — there aren’t 30 million illegal immigrants and there is no evidence that the presence of an immigrant in say houston has any impact on housing in madison, wisconsin — or you could note straightforwardly that this is just nazi rhetoric
JD Vance: "A lot of young people are saying housing is way too expensive. Why is that? Because we flooded the country with 30 million illegal immigrants who were taking houses that ought by right go to American citizens."

In addition to the fact that it's very much the power imbalance and legal responsibility to protect them that makes them children, it's also disturbing that so many people are willingly like "listen, 15 year olds are hot, and that's a fact." They are children. They look like children.
