Airstrikes don’t “test” a ceasefire. They break a ceasefire. Language isn’t that hard, media. Neither is professionalism and bravery.

I actually thought I had shared this on here and I hadn't. But if you want to look at why Tehran has to move it's climate change, yes, but it's genuinely fascinating as a failure of long term planning/ not understanding water supplies.
you'd think the forced displacement of 10 million people from one of the oldest centres of civilisation in human history would get a little more news attention than beltway journalists writing essays on how Olivia Nuzzi is a genius because they want to bone her and you'd be wrong
'Iran’s capital must be moved because the country “no longer has a choice,” President Masoud Pezeshkian said on Thursday in remarks carried by state media, warning that severe ecological strain has made Tehran impossible to sustain'

Here’s something that’s really important for everyone to understand.

If we design our cities just for cars, they fail everyone, including drivers.

If we design our cities with many great CHOICES in how to get around, they work better for everyone, including drivers.

Spread the word.

PM Carney takes a jab at PoiLIEvre: “You know, one of the advantages of having your security clearance is you’re better informed about some of the threats [facing Canada], and I highly recommend that anyone either in a position of responsibility—or seeking it—has their security clearance.”

Pierre Poilievre says he wants to “restore merit.” He needed to be handed arguably the safest, most impossible to lose conservative seat in all of Canada after losing his own seat.

Seems like the opposite of merit. #Poilievre

(oh, and he still refuses to complete a check for a security clearance)

NEW: There’s a disaster unfolding in Alaska right now. And no major network is covering it.

The remnants of Typhoon Halong battered western Alaska overnight. Homes, with people in them, have literally been swept into the Bering Strait.

At least 20 are missing. No comment from any federal agency.

how the fuck can anyone turn a blind eye Israel’s intentions when their Defense Minister just continues to say psychotic shit?!
🔴 Israel’s Defense Minister Israel Katz declared that the “bolt has now been removed from the gates of hell in Gaza,” warning of a new phase of escalation on the city.

The “problem” with vaccines? They so effective at preventing deaths that they create generations of people that question whether disease was a problem in the first place because they have never experienced the horrors of a world without vaccines.

Notably, 12,000 year old landforms are not offset across the fault, which implies that it may be at a relatively late stage of an interseismic period, having accrued a slip deficit of ~6 m. From this, we estimate that ruptures of at least magnitude 7.5 are possible in the future.

The paper I've been waiting for! Trying to find seismic hazard information for this region has been challenging at best, and I've been unsuccessful in finding something that describes risk. Seems worth it now to continue with earthquake insurance on the house (even if it is 20% of my premium).
A thread on this paper! 🧪⚒️

The Tintina fault is a major right-lateral fault, stretching ~1000 km across the Yukon, and having slipped a total of ~430 km in its lifetime. It's generally thought to have been inactive since the Eocene.
