I truly don’t know how you look at the past week and THEN decide THIS is an appropriate — let alone the right — response.
Dems backed Trump into a corner where he’s advocating for starving Americans and hemorrhaging support. If they vote to let him off the hook in exchange for nothing it’s a cataclysmic failure. I know people are in pain but insulating Republicans from political consequences is not the answer.

Just another example of how in the "us vs them" narrative, democrats and republicans are the them.
@markwarner.bsky.social DO NOT CAVE
John Fetterman, Angus King, Maggie Hassan, Dick Durbin, Jon Ossoff, Jeanne Shaheen, Kirsten Gillibrand, Catherine Cortez Masto, Mark Warner, Cory Booker, and of course Chuck Schumer. Maybe others not top of mind. Not all responsible will publicly vote for the cave - that's not how this works.

A 50 year mortgage is a simply asinine idea and warrants zero thought or consideration.

How is a 50 year mortgage really any different from renting? The vast majority will never pay that off, and it leaves heirs etc without an asset?
If you’re going to black hole that money, at least with renting you get some services (landscaping/repairs) in the mix

I have been developing retail properties and groceries for 25 years. This week, an interview with me appeared in Germany's leading real estate newspaper, and it will be republished (🤞) next week in the leading business newspaper.
The topic: The bicycle is the future of downtown retail.

It’s really important that #Vancouver’s Downtown Business Association, who were originally against bike-lanes, are now among their most vigourous supporters, because of ACTUAL EVIDENCE that they’re better for downtown business than any street parking they replaced.
Safe bike-lanes mean business.

I’ve been saying this for a while.
It’s shit like this that makes me think the GOP doesn’t care about winning elections and they’re just not planning on having them. Because no one who thinks they have to win elections does this.
They're going to the highest court in the land to avoid feeding children.

12 days of work in 107 days.
With full pay and benefits.
The senate has been working, so this is not about the shutdown.
It is about avoiding a vote to release the Epstein files.

For the remarkable number of folks in excellent law firms, corporate suites, non-legal academia who still aren't really sure "where we are" country-wise, I'm just not sure how much clearer he can be. Countries in which opponents of the government can "never obtain power" are not democracies.
Trump: "They're gonna make DC a state and they're gonna make Puerto Rico a state. So now they pick up two states, four senators. They're gonna pick up electoral votes. It's gonna be a very, very bad situation. Now, if we do what I'm saying, they'll most likely never obtain power."

If I were the mayor or governor, I would simply not allow masked, armed men to kidnap preschool teachers in front of their children. If this isn’t a red line for you as a leader, then I don't know what you think your job is.
Arrest them. Cut power to their facilities. Send out protection patrols.

One of the best books I’ve read.
Anyway, all this is complicated and perhaps hard to see clearly just in a quick, during-coffee morning thread.
I explain all this in detail (in order to dismantle the fossil-fuel propaganda that we can expect continued economic growth, despite climate change) in Chp 3 of my last book.
