The death of browsing is part of the reason art is the way it is now. Our opinions are largely fed to us by algorithms. Spending a spare 15 minutes wandering around a bookstore or comic shop or video rental place was how you found stuff you wouldn't ordinarily pick up and thereby expanded your taste
Bookselling is like the most "people go to the store and buy what looks cool to them without a particular agenda" type business left, and your purchases have a huge influence on what is ordered, what is displayed, and what is recommended.

I am the Leo pointing meme every time I'm reading @tombreihan.bsky.social's Number Ones column (it's great, read it!) and he mentions his time in Syracuse.

How about we shut down the government for this very popular and specific goal and then, hear me out, we hold out for like a month and a half and then, ok this part is important, after a watershed election where we ran the table, ONLY THEN, fold and don't get the one thing we said we wanted.

The Dems are on the right side of things during the shutdown, but the messaging has been lousy!
Its simple & powerful, if put clearly-

“Republicans have taken American families food hostage in order to pressure Dems to let the President gut their healthcare. This is not an acceptable choice!”

One of the few positive aspects of this era in American history is that it's super-easy to identify the villains.

i think possibly the most embarrassing thing about me is i was president of the debate club in high school and that experience really informed my views on people like Kirk and Ted Cruz and the pod save guys. I think debate club is really harmful actually, it basically straight up teaches amorality
“fostering open debate” is studying rhetoric and various fallacies in order to masturbate in public knowledge is not on the table babes!

This is a good message. I hope a lot of people hear it. This is a big tent. Give me the Bulwark former Republicans willing to support any Democrat and Communists willing to support a billionaire.
Everyone's screaming about how the left doesn't compromise and I keep saying I will vote for this guy. I am a communist who will vote for a billionaire. Centrists, tell me about even one instance when you have compromised like anything close to this. Or at all.
I made a promise to the women of Illinois — as governor, I will ensure your medical decisions will be your own.

Now, we continue fulfilling that promise.

Public colleges will now provide contraception and medication abortion at on-campus pharmacies and student health centers.

It’s pretty simple:

- AI is driving electricity demand up

- The Trump Administration is restricting new electricity supply from being built

- When demand goes up and supply goes down, you pay more for electricity.
Breaking News: The Trump administration ordered construction to stop on a $4 billion wind farm off the coast of Rhode Island that has already mostly been built.

The order to stop construction on Revolution Wind off the coast of Rhode Island is part of a campaign against renewable energy.

When you get @radiofreetom.bsky.social talking about Star Trek TNG, he starts burning credibility at just south of the "I added a journalist to my secret war group text" rate.

I once saw someone on Reddit compare listening to @radiofreetom.bsky.social to therapy for people with conservative dads who we desperately hoped would see the light as the GOP fell to evil, but never did.

Probably more than a little accurate. Tom is my favorite podcast guest. Always a delight.
