This is literally what I've been writing and podcasting about for years. I was planning to do an essay on this, but here's a 🧵.

The main reason is psychology. Due to personal, family, and cultural histories, some people are inherently scared of the world.
Fight and help win a world war.

Establish a global order that cements your national power for 80 years.

Blow it all up.

What am I missing?

Almost 29 years after I saw it on the theaters as a rising freshman in college - with an audience that lost its shit at "I used to be a helluva engineer, once" a few blocks from Georgia Tech - and it still raises gooseflesh on my neck.

I'm seeing reports that Gov. Tim Walz has activated (but not yet mobilized) the MN National Guard to "ensure the safety of peaceful protesters".

By now, asteroid 2026 Dreadstone has impacted the Indian Ocean, sparking a firestorm not seen on this planet since the K–Pg Extinction Event. Most people just want to be with their families. Here are three ways effective business leaders can leverage targeted KPIs to turn tragedy 😔 into triumph 💪

Btw highly recommend if you’re ever in the DC area, it’s a gigantic fuck-off hanger stuffed full of planes spanning the whole history of human flight and they have both an SR-71 and a space shuttle

Good. These are things I'm proud to have voted for.
Seattle Mayor Katie Wilson is announcing two executive orders today. First, she's launching an effort to ID and prioritize public land to site new shelter for people like those living at a large encampment in Ballard, where she paused an encampment removal yesterday.

January 23rd, folks
With this list of Minnesota labor and community orgs this is REAL. Not internet randos repeating a meme.
Unions and community orgs are calling for a Minnesota-wide shutdown in 10 days to protest the ferocious assault by federal immigration agents. They're saying on Jan 23, no work, no school, no shopping. SEIU Local 26, UNITE HERE Local 17, & others are supporting, w/ more to join. By me, Amie Stager

Hobbes clearly votes for the Tigers Pouncing Schoolchildren Returning Home party.
Just a reminder that you've never seen a Calvin & Hobbes animated movie or cartoon is because Bill Watterson didn't want to give Hobbes a voice so he could always live inside your head exactly the way you imagined him. And to this day you have no idea who he ever has voted for. But you can guess.

Seriously. "Thank you for your labor; here is what exploitation looks like and how to safely report it, how to join the union, how to get health care, how to get an education, how to enroll your kids in school, and how to become a citizen. America is better with you as an American."

🧵 Me, too.
The last good thing Scott Adams can do for the world is to serve as a cautionary tale to everyone who’s sense of self rests on being one of the smart ones.

I don’t mean that unkindly. It’s genuinely tragic in a way I can appreciate more knowing he has no more bombs to drop.

Hey, fellow Southern Californians -

Please amplify this wide and far.
A neighbor was taken to a care facility, and her little tortoiseshell kitty was left behind. I can't take her in but I've been feeding her and giving her water every day. No one in the neighbor's family can take her in. Is there anyone in the Inland Empire area that could foster or adopt her?

WHAT
'Escalate,' as in "tensions escalate," comes from the word 'escalator.'

It first appeared in print in 1944.

'Escalator' originated as a trademarked term for the Otis Elevator Company's moving staircase and was demonstrated at the Paris Exposition in 1900.
