Fare free transit is not a given in any large European city please be so for real
Europeans recognize Zohran Mamdani’s supposedly radical policies as ‘normal’ -- Critics of New York City’s mayor-elect have said his pledges of free bus service and universal childcare are unrealistic, but in Europe it’s a given www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025...

I can't believe according to the New York City Charter Cuomo now has to be held in a cage in the Central Park Zoo until June when he must be fed to sharks off the coast of Rockaway Beach. But them's the rules!

I bet rezonings along the IBX will be among the first times that the Affordable Housing Appeals Board comes into play (implicitly if not explicitly.) Queens and Brooklyn have pro-housing Borough Presidents for the next 4 years but their successors may not be - we must strike while the iron is hot.
Putting the IBX route next to the voting map also helps narrow down where the biggest rezoning fights are going to play out. Lots of resistance to greater density in the pro-Cuomo nabes in Queens

If I can get a little too sincere: Tonight is the first time where I can believe with my whole heart that I can live in the place I love for the rest of my life, and live in the way I want to, and I am jubilant at the possibility. This is what politics is supposed to feel like.

I am hearing that on his deathbed Andrew Cuomo received the light of democratic socialism and unhesitatingly sang the Internationale. Even now he looks down on Bushwick from the gardens of Astoria. Truly there is no god but DSA, and Zohran is his prophet!

@zohrankmamdani.bsky.social has already proven that nothing changes unless we change it.

Today, by joining Zohran and voting YES on Proposals 2 through 5, New Yorkers are wielding the power of our votes to change the course of our city’s future. @opennewyork.org

...and less than 24 hours later Condé Nast has fired Lex and the rest of the Teen Vogue political desk, even as stories like this were bringing huge numbers of readers to the site
dissatisfied by the New York Times coverage of Zohran Mamdani?

great news! I talked to the guy Thursday about his campaign’s success at bringing community together beyond this election, and contextualized how it’s potentially shifted youth engagement with politics by simply listening @teenvogue.com
Zohran Mamdani's Establishment-Fighting Campaign Built Community for Young People
“What Mamdani has done is not only inspire and mobilize young people, but he has exposed the establishment and some of their calcified views of participation and inclusion.”

NYC is the queerest place on the planet.

From trans youth who need supportive housing to queer elders who need affordable housing, we just cannot get it built fast enough.

Keep NYC the beacon it is for our communities — vote YES on Props 2-5 for a New York we can actually afford.

Short explanation of what the deal is with "affordability" in the housing ballot proposals, since people have lots of questions - mainly stemming from the fact that our existing system is so complicated to begin with! (Explanation first, some personal commentary after)

I think keeping local elections odd-year would be a big fuck you to New Yorkers. I have so much respect for local media but please be so for real.
I think the prop 6 to move election day is ultimately a big fuck you to local media, so I wrote about why we need to stay separate from the oxygen destroyer that is the presidential race (and talked to smarter political minds than myself about it too): read it here nygroove.nyc/proposition-...
Proposition 6: Why local media might suffer if we move election day
It's hard enough to get people to pay attention; moving election day will make it worse

This new map based on @theNYHC data makes it clear: it’s too easy to block affordable housing in wide swaths of the city.

If you agree every neighborhood needs to do its part in solving our citywide housing crisis, vote YES on Props 2-5.
