This true not just for economic vibes. The entire movement of, let's call it medical skepticism, relies on having a completely warped views of what health outcomes used to be even three decades ago
not that the present economic picture is rosy, but i do think that popular culture — and specifically nostalgia bait television — is a big part of the reason that our public memory of the 1970s, 1980s and even 1990s seems to miss the real economic pain that marked each of those decades.

The fact that it at least anecdotally seems to be a semi-regular practice to tell white people a minority got the job in order to soften the blow of rejection really should put the elite woke panic into perspective.

If Paladino had said that Jews amounted to a fifth column and should be removed from the country, Menin would be one of many in elected office calling for her to be expelled from the Council. That it was about Muslims is just as heinous, yet all we get is this lukewarm response.
Paladino should be expelled from the Council, not given a fake-stern talking to. If Menin fails this test, she isn’t up for being Speaker.

agree with this and think there's something v telling about people going "ooh but why are you on Bluesky it's irrelevant" - what if I don't really care about being relevant! the vast majority of people post on social media not because they want to be famous but because they enjoy it! just be normal!
the proximate reason i post here — beyond the fact that i like a lot of you and enjoy reading your thoughts and jokes and observations — is that this is a non-algorithmic platform where people share lots of stuff and people read what is shared. that's still valuable even if it doesn't "influence!"

Rob Reiner was a good guy. He made a lot of movies about good guys, in worlds where not everyone was good and you didn’t have to be good. He made movies about people trying. He was angry, as many hopeful people are. He knew the world could be better and he wanted it to be. His death is devastating.
