Mostly I post about Scottish politics (I am pro-indy & SNP) or work-related stuff that I'm interested in (healtheconomics & RStats). Maybe occasional memes or stuff about knitting. Reskeets not an endorsement...& all the other old disclaimers!

Once every 20 years or so, the director-general of the BBC is forced to resign for being insufficiently rightwing. Alastair Milne in 1987. Greg Dyke in 2004. Tim Davie in 2025. The great irony is that the BBC was in all cases profoundly biased towards established power. But just not biased enough …

It is very clear the gutting of Teen Vogue is about silencing their excellent political coverage. Corporations want you uninformed and shut off from meaningful journalism. And they’re staggeringly successful at it so far.
I was laid off from Teen Vogue today along with multiple other staffers, and today is my last day.

certainly more to come from me when the dust has settled more, but to my knowledge, after today, there will be no politics staffers at Teen Vogue.

In all fairness, some statistical methods are so much fun that you should be allowed to write exactly one paper whose entire motivation is "we wanted to apply this pretty cool method to some data we had lying around"

Saw a news report yesterday about children as young as 9 being given weight loss jabs on the NHS, and I think it shows just how utterly bullshit the “lack of research into long term impacts” excuse for banning puberty blockers for trans kids really was. It’s purely ideological.

The “health surcharge” is an utterly bogus labelling. It’s not hypothecated for health spending and you can’t choose not to pay it and not use the NHS. You could call it an education surcharge or a defence surcharge or anything. It’s just using the sanctified status of the NHS to rip off immigrants.

Super easy to use the mapgl package and @oldinsurancemaps.net to compare 1886 Richmond, VA to today in #rstats. The site of Gallego Mills, the ruins of which became an iconic photo after the fall of Richmond in the American Civil War, is now an office building and freeway.

Westminster wants Scotland to accept nuclear power stations for the same reason they site their Trident WMDs here: because they are safely far away from their core voters in the SE of England.
Ed Miliband has confirmed that a vote for Anas Sarwar to be first minister is a vote for nuclear power stations in Scotland

🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 Scotland already more than meets its own annual demand through renewable energy - we don’t need dangerous and dirty nuclear energy.

The Standing Charge has increased so much that even if you use no electricity at all you are now being charged as much you were for using 3kwh's per day in 2021.

It is blatant theft.

I am opposed to mandatory digital ID - people should be able to go about their daily lives without such infringements.

That aside, by calling it BritCard, the Prime Minister seems to be attempting to force every Scot to declare ourselves British.
