Good news: more than 50% of the world’s economies have seen carbon emissions from fossil fuel power generation peaking. And with the speed of change in the electricity sector many more will join this growing list in coming years.

During the Great Recession (2008-09) UK GDP fell by 6%. Thankfully, it mostly recovered after 5 years.

Since Brexit referendum (2016) UK GDP has fallen between 6% and 8%. Unclear whether and when it will fully recover.

This (not from that piece) is one of those charts where I am completely aware of the data but my mental map of how the global economy works still almost refuses to update to the new reality. Because the pace of change has been so rapid.

Great thread...
It blows my mind that there are real people who see a post like this and actually believe the whole “Christmas is being cancelled by Muslims” BS 🙄

Let’s have a quick look at what’s happening to Sheffield so you can put your Express reading uncle’s mind at ease!😆

Excellent article by @dsmitheconomics.bsky.social & the PS is fascinating also. Surprised this didn't happen already. We had a vote in class about IR - 2 went higher, 8 or 9 went lower & the rest held. Students had to justify their choice, so it seems reasonable MPC members should as well! #EconSky
My Sunday Times piece: A rise in income tax rates would be no bad thing if part of a proper tax reform strategy, but not as a panicked response to a failed budget deficit reduction policy, which is the reality:

Rachel Reeves’ raid on income tax could work

How Rachel Reeves’ raid on income tax could work
It has been 50 years since the basic rate was raised and it has been untouchable ever since. But in some ways, breaking this taboo should be welcomed

This is a really good article from @ingridhk.bsky.social and helps you understand a little bit more about the Eurocentric nature of mainstream economics. #EconSky
My analysis of his year's Economics Nobel is out in EPW! What's wrong with the Economics Nobel this time around? I've written a little commentary arguing that the Prize rewards Eurocentric foundations for (innovation-driven) growth and supports a technology fetish. PDF: ingridhk.com/wp-content/u...

It's interesting reading the book 'Fluke' & thinking how things change by accident. Take West Ham for example. Some fans might disagree but a key changing point seems to be the injury to Ollie Scarles. Suddenly it forces Nuno to make a tactical change that balances the whole team & they play better.

Great article this. It's not really price discrimination because it's different firms doing different prices, so it's interesting to consider why the prices are soooo different. Great to give to a class and just ask why! #EconSky
