It's only a podcast if I can listen to it via any podcatcher that picks up RSS feeds.
A video is not a podcast.
An audio performance that I can only hear on one app or website is not a podcast.

1. I listen to a LOT of podcasts (subbed to ~300)
2. I also watch a lot of Youtube
3. There is *zero* overlap between the two for me
4. If you put a video version of your podcast out, I'll actively avoid it

Bonus: your phone will subtitle audio, certainly Android can, have a mess in access settings
will also add - yes, this is my personal crusade - that turning podcasts into videos implicitly asks women to once again make more effort than men, as the bar for "camera-ready" for one gender is obviously higher than for the other
‘Painful to hear!’ How podcasts’ rush to video is turning them into dreadful listens

STILL no trans people or drag queens implicated in the Epstein Files.

Plenty of TERFs though.

It’s almost as though every “gender-critical” transphobe is trying to protect cis men who abuse women and girls by helping them distract from the real threat.

I know #DuvetKnowItsChristmas is fun and raises money for charity but it also gets me emotional. Like, it's so important for us to be with our loved ones that we will sleep on kitchen floors and also those bonds are strong enough for us to say "oh you're ok with the broken camp bed, yes?" ♥️

Emo keeps getting under our feet in the kitchen, so I made a masking tape trap

We just got back and found him asleep in it 😻

Tomorrow evening it’ll be my annual duty to vaguely shepherd the activity on the #duvetknowitschristmas hashtag and urge people to give small sums to charity. 7.30pm? Something like that?

Do Quakers do Christmas? Traditionally, Quakers don't celebrate special days, but today the picture is more complex.

Rhiannon Grant shares four questions she asks herself when thinking about whether and how to participate in Christmas activities.
Is your Christmas simple, radical, spiritual?
Rhiannon Grant reflects on how Quaker traditions and testimony influence how she marks the festive season.

I'm preaching to the choir here, but I read articles to find what's not being said and where I need to keep digging. And that's something a generated summary cannot provide.
FWIW, the jury is still out on Gen AI being good at text summaries. Because it shortens & emphasizes text based on distribution, not meaning, it’s less of a summary (ie, salient points highlighted) than a compression (ie, the most frequently asserted terms in the distribution). Not the same thing!

You can only book space in a Quaker owned/run building if you adhere to our principles

And we collectively decided to affirm and welcome trans and NB folks

There are GC/TERF Quakers, but they're in the minority and frustrated at the lack of traction they've been able to gain
British Quakers are refusing room bookings from terfs as policy.
If you were waiting for an org to stand up for LGBTQIA+ rights, and unflinchingly withstand bullying and lawfare, here you go, friends.
Good luck to the raging bigots, they'll get nowhere with threats.

Quakers in Britain are continuing to work to ensure that all Quaker communities are inclusive of gender diversity, following a decision in 2021. A new document provides both theological background for this, rooted in the commandment to love one another, and practical guidance. 1/4

It’s not the Industrial Revolution. It’s colonialism, resource plunder from the vulnerable, and enforced free labour (whatever you want to call that) for the benefit of a declared overclass. Empire by another name, not charming top hats and poop-poop steam engines.

1. You should subscribe to this, it's a lot of fun

2. I've listened to ABK read his own book this week, and now 2 podcast episodes, I've started narrating my own thoughts in his voice

3. The books are amazing, O ended up listening to the middle/end with me, packed with Adams/Pratchett-esque humour

I stopped selling online and now only stock a local physical shop

The RELIEF from not having to try and do the social media aspect of it too...

I'm a maker, not a social media pro, I'm *terrible* at pro instagram and I have zero desire to leave how to improve!
One of my big concerns is that creators are now often required to be influencers. Creativity takes a backseat to generating content, and I'm not sure that's a good thing.
One of these days we’re gonna have to have a long discussion about the need to survive as a creator under capitalism vs the commodification of art, aren’t we.
