Happy New Year, everyone, We’re starting as we mean to go on. Anyone who believed the banning of Executive parties from Pride was a one-off was mistaken. The situation at Stormont has not changed and neither have we. Today, we are sending the letter shared above to each of the Executive parties. We will also be writing to the leader of the SDLP. While they are not currently an Executive party, the reality is that they have not done enough, and that cannot go unchallenged. We want to take a moment to pay tribute to Green Party NI, People Before Profit, and the Socialist Party for standing with us throughout 2025 and in previous years. Their solidarity has mattered, and we look forward to welcoming them at Pride again this year. As for the other parties: the clock is ticking, and we are watching. They have until the beginning of Pride Month to demonstrate meaningful change. If they fail to do so, the ban will remain in place. We also want to thank our Pride siblings particularly Belfast, Foyle, Omagh, and Mid & East Antrim Pride for standing with us in solidarity last year. Collective action is how we win, and we hope to stand together again this year. Finally, to the queer community: thank you. Thank you for your words of support, for marching with us, and for refusing to be silenced. We look forward to welcoming you all back on August 1st, under this year’s theme: “Still Here, Still Proud.” Because We are here. We are queer. And we aren’t going anywhere. Dear Party Leader, We are writing jointly on behalf of Causeway Pride and Mams 4 Trans NI to formally confirm the exclusion of Executive parties from Pride 2026 and to set out, without ambiguity, both the reasons for this decision and the consequences of continued inaction. This was not a route we wanted to take. Pride organisers do not exclude political parties lightly. We are here because Executive parties repeatedly left us with no alternative. Years of delay, regression, and avoidance on LGBTQIA+ rights have made this position unavoidable. Attempts to reduce this decision to a single issue, including puberty blockers, are inaccurate and misleading. This exclusion reflects a broader and long-standing pattern: LGBTQIA+ rights treated as negotiable, progress stalled for political convenience, and harm allowed to persist while responsibility is deferred. When decisive action was required, Executive parties repeatedly failed to deliver. Our communities have been consulted without outcomes, reassured without follow-through, and expected to remain patient while our rights were deprioritised. Pride does not exist to absorb political failure or provide cover for it, and we will not allow it to be used that way. This is a deliberate, ongoing measure, not a protest gesture. Pride Month as always is in June, and our Pride Parade will take place on 1 August 2026. The exclusion still applies and will remain in force unless Executive parties demonstrate through action, not assertion that it is no longer necessary. At present, that threshold has not been met. This letter therefore serves as explicit advance notice that without material and verifiable progress, the ban will stand. For the avoidance of doubt, “meaningful action” is defined strictly and non-negotiably as: Delivery of legislative and policy change, not further discussion, that materially improves the lives of LGBTQIA+ people Clear, time-bound commitments from party leadership, followed by demonstrable action within the Executive Active opposition to policies, rhetoric, and decisions that harm LGBTQIA+ people, including when politically inconvenient Engagement that produces outcomes, not access, visibility, or appearances Accountability, including acknowledgement of failures and evidence of corrective action Attendance at events, photo opportunities, rainbow branding, social media statements, or general expressions of support do not meet this standard and will be treated as performative.

There will be a lot of posts in December about everything people achieved this year and that’s fine. But if the only thing you did this year was get through it, that is more than enough. Christmas can be an especially difficult time for many LGBTQIA+ people here in Northern Ireland, particularly those dealing with unsupportive families, religious pressure, or communities where it still isn’t safe to be fully yourself. Please check on your queer friends. A text, an invite, or a reminder that they’re not alone can genuinely save lives. We’ll be taking a short break from social media over the festive period to rest and regroup. But come January, we’ll be straight back at it holding MLAs and Ministers’ feet to the fire over the puberty blocker ban, the ongoing failures in LGBTQIA+ healthcare, and the wider lack of political courage when it comes to our rights. Rest is not retreat. Care is not complacency. The work continues. Take care of yourselves, and take care of each other.

Causeway Pride Statement on the Supreme Court Ruling Causeway Pride welcomes the recent Supreme Court ruling as an important milestone for the rights and wellbeing of LGBTQIA+ young people across Northern Ireland, and indeed for all children especially those whose beliefs do not align with a Christian worldview. The decision, which found that the current approach to Religious Education and collective worship in controlled schools is not sufficiently neutral or balanced, affirms a fundamental principle: that every child has the right to freedom of thought, conscience, and belief, and that state funded education must respect the diversity of families and identities that make up our society. It is important to us to state clearly that we are not anti Christian, nor do we view this ruling as a rejection of Christianity or its role in many people’s lives. We wish to pay sincere tribute to All Souls Church, Christians at Pride, and countless others within faith communities who have taken genuine steps towards healing old wounds, building bridges, and demonstrating that faith and LGBTQIA+ inclusion can coexist with love and solidarity. Their presence, compassion, and public witness have shown how powerful and positive faith can be when it honours the dignity of all people.

Today, a representative of Mams4TransNI, in collaboration with Nest and Causeway Pride, met with Baroness Hilary Cass, author of the Cass Review, as part of the ongoing review into gender identity services in Northern Ireland. Our representative attended in a personal capacity as a previous member of the Liaison Panel into Gender Services, ensuring that the insights and lived experiences of families and young people in Northern Ireland were meaningfully represented during the discussion. We are grateful for the opportunity to engage in this important process and for the continued dedication of the other former panel members who also attended and indeed all those who advocate for better, safer, and more accessible services for trans and gender-diverse people We will issue a further and more detailed statement once we have had time to reflect on the discussions, review the information shared during the meeting, and update the families who so bravely entrusted us with their personal stories to inform our advocacy.

This victory is more than a political milestone, it’s a signal that hope, solidarity, and progressive change are once again on the rise. Across Ireland, Britain, and the United States, the Left is finding its strength anew. From rent strikes to climate marches, from trade unions to queer collectives, people are coming together to reclaim politics for the many not the few. The tide is turning towards justice, compassion, and community. Here at home, we see that same spirit burning bright. In Northern Ireland, we know what it means to fight for equality against the odds to build solidarity across difference and to imagine a future free from fear. Our movements are connected: queer liberation, workers’ rights, housing justice, climate action, none can be won alone, but all can be won together. Yet we also know the struggle isn’t over. Across the world, reactionary forces are pushing back against trans rights, against migrants, against the planet itself. That’s why moments like this matter: they remind us what’s possible when we refuse to give up. So today, we celebrate and we organise. Because Pride is protest, solidarity is power, and the movement for justice is alive and unstoppable. The Left is rising. The people are uniting. And the fight for liberation goes on.

We stand in full solidarity with Lucina Schynning and Krystal Queer after the disgusting homophobic attack they were subjected to in Cork. What happened to them is horrifying and it’s a reminder of the violence and hatred our community still faces every day, just for being visible, proud, and queer. No one should ever be attacked for existing. The fact that bystanders laughed, filmed, and encouraged this assault shows just how deep the rot of queerphobia runs. Silence and inaction in the face of hate make people complicit. This isn’t an isolated incident it’s part of a pattern. Across this island, queer and trans people are being targeted, harassed, and assaulted. From the streets to social media, hate is being normalised while those in power look the other way. We refuse to accept that. Causeway Pride stands shoulder to shoulder with our drag family and every queer person who’s been made to feel unsafe. We send love and rage! Love for our community, rage at the systems that keep failing us. We call for: A full investigation into this attack and accountability for those responsible. Real action on hate crime prevention and reporting not more empty words. Solidarity from allies (especially politicians) speak up when you see hate, step in, don’t stay silent. Continued joy and defiance from our community because queer joy is resistance. As Lucina said, “We are going to keep enjoying ourselves and being very openly queer.” That’s exactly what we’ll keep doing loudly, proudly, and together. Hate has no place here. Causeway Pride extends our warmest congratulations to Catherine Connolly on her election as President of Ireland. Although those of us in Northern Ireland do not have a vote in this election, we celebrate this historic moment and what it represents for the island as a whole. President Connolly has long been a passionate advocate for equality, inclusion, and social justice. Her record of standing up for the rights of LGBTQIA+ people, for women, and for marginalised communities gives hope to many across Ireland north and south that compassion, courage, and fairness remain at the heart of public life. Her election sends a powerful message that leadership grounded in empathy and principle continues to thrive on this island. We also wish to express our deep gratitude to outgoing President Michael D. Higgins for his years of dedicated service. His steadfast commitment to human rights, his moral clarity on global justice issues including his outspoken support for the people of Gaza and his unwavering advocacy for equality have left a profound legacy that will be felt for generations.
