It’s really difficult & disorienting but the feds hit LA extremely hard today. There were kidnappings all over & reported cluster raids in Chinatown, East LA, Ktown. This list shows to 1130 AM but they haven’t stopped all day

Just because the media attention stopped doesn’t mean the abductions have

I feel like each city contributed to the model and took learnings from previous invasions. Portland created social awareness & set a peaceful tone with the inflatable costumes. Chicago added the whistles, observers, and tailing cars. The Twin Cities added mass organizing & resilience.

This is a pretty big deal. Combined with opera singer Renee Fleming canceling her shows, this sets the standard for all classical musicians.

This thread is an important insight.

Fundamentally, voters are inconsistent. Yes, they can be very racist. They can also be moved to fight racism.

The job of leaders is to lead, not just check the weathervane.

The Right has understood this for two generations.
The basic fallacy in chasing votes by being "tough on immigration" is that the modal American's position on the issue is "Deport the Bad ones and keep the Good ones," and they alone know who is which, and that simply does not translate into workable policy. So this kind of gestapo stuff (1/2)

This is always a tell. Left-wing media consumers always know *much more* about right wing media, rw talking points, than anyone closer to the center.
I love when people (who claim to be) on the left are like, "I get out of my bubble and listen to right-wing podcasts; that makes me better than the rest of you who are brainwashed by your echo chamber!" as though my job for years wasn't consuming almost exclusively right-wing content.

The biggest risk in this moment is something sociologists call “symbolic compliance.”

That’s when an institution that is violating civil rights gives the public just enough symbolic victories that accountability efforts lose steam before there has been any meaningful change.

The officer who shot Alex worked for DHS for 8 years. The officer who shot Renee worked for DHS for over 10 years. Both are considered “highly trained.”

The problem isn’t "training." DHS was built to violate our rights and has been empowered to act with impunity. We must MELT ICE and dismantle DHS.

understandable frustration with respectability politics but worth acknowledging that this kind of political situation is what it was for
The execution of Alex Pretti is playing so badly because you can look at his actions and life story - his last act was helping, boy scout, athlete, health care worker to veterans - and compare those to the men who killed him and know which you would want to be your son, brother, father, uncle.
