Foaf got doxxed so time to be a little more aggressive with the blocks here for me. If we don't have mutuals and/or you've got a sparsely filled out profile then sorry, blocked.
A lot of liberals are very afraid, and we have to learn to move beyond and acccept the fear to start actually building a way out of this mess.
It's 2026. I don't want to hear virtue signaling from liberals about all the horrible people they'd vote for over Trump/Vance in 2028. I want to hear what work they're doing TODAY to ensure we will have better options then.

Jason, upon realizing the driver he'd been criticizing was Asian - "there are no races when you're driving, only right drivers and wrong drivers."

And this is part of why I wear noise-cancelling headphones on airplanes. Not to be too much of a misanthrope but a plane is already a miserable experience; I don't want forced socialization on top of it.

Hey if you live in the greater Seattle area and you approve of Mayor Wilson's plan to ban ICE from using city property, vote Yes in the Komo poll. It's being flooded by right-wing bots.

Seattle mayor announces plan to block ICE activity, use police to verify federal agent IDs
Under the plan, the mayor will issue an executive order prohibiting civil federal immigration authorities from using city-owned and city-controlled properties.

Not entirely the point but I do think people forget that one of the main tasks of (Christian) monastics is to pray for the world. It's not isolation for isolation's sake, or (solely) for the purpose of self-purification. It's to escape the distractions of the world interfere with your prayer to God.
Monasticism is the opposite of this because it's the opposite of "productivity" according to the world.

This isn't mine, and I can't definitively find the original source. But I love this little bit of wisdom:

"If you're a fifteen-minute walk from a coffee shop, but the server there has to drive an hour to get to work, you don't live in a walkable city. You live in a theme park."
For all the fearmongering about capital flight from New York City, there’s an exodus few want to talk about: working people.

Sky-high rents and outrageous child care costs are already pushing families out of the city they keep running.

That’s what we have to change.

Starting the job search again, so if you have any leads for a mid-level fullstack/backend software developer, send 'em my way.
(I'm still employed and not in danger afaik, but I think I need a change for the purposes of actually having a career direction.)

Add in the black and white, you either love it or hate polarization of media discussion these days and it's just not worth it to engage in most online nerd culture.
The worst thing about Gamergate and all the spinoff dumbass culture war nonsense is that theres actually lots of good reasons not to like lots of stuff and we can't even talk about it because of the muttonheads
I didn't like the movie! I didn't like the movie for reasons that had nothing to do with why most people didn't like the movie! I wish we could have had this conversation at the time!

Can't speak for others but I was a vocarious reader as a kid. My local paper still had a fairly robust comics page I read every morning with breakfast. Could be that our generation growing older and the emergence of Gen Z coincided with the death of the local paper and the comics pages, so we ended
why did so many millennials read so many newspaper comics? easily 60 percent of my reading diet in elementary/middle school was collected editions of calvin and hobbes, farside, dilbert, peanuts, doonesbury (!), foxtrot (?!?) and i know im not alone. historically unique phenomenon
rather than talk about Scott Adams I want to talk about something weirder (me). Who else was really into Dilbert when you were 12. Who else was like, boy, I can't wait to work a cubicle job
