Lunch with the FT: Jeremy Bowen

I spoke to the BBC's international editor about Israel, impartiality, and whether Gaddafi farted through interviews: www.ft.com/content/b139...

Right up there with “mistakes have been made”
"difficult decisions have been taken" is an all-time use of the passive voice

Someone just tried to take my FT Weekend at Gatwick. I should probably have offered her a trial but I panicked and gabbled “no it’s mine sorry no you can’t”. She looked quite scared tbh. Maybe not a brand boosting exercise don’t tell marketing

Well obviously we do need primary legislation to denoble our illustrious criminals. With the frequency this question is arising perhaps some sort of sliding snake directly from the chamber in to the Thames would be more efficient

Only at the FT could you boast about spending a stupid amount of time on a “war and peace” length piece for no reason in morning conference
I gather some people think the FT has been neglecting its core for “woke nonsense” bla bla yada yada, which is news to this 12k word beast — an oral history of the Federal Reserve’s Covid-19 crisis made up of quotes from the recently released full transcripts. www.ft.com/content/cb9a...

Interesting that the book writing politics professor has pivoted to Anti-Nerd while running for Reform. Absolutely no reason for drive by on MARY GODDAMN BEARD unless you want to oppose thought and nuance. She's been on Top Gear! #teammary
You dont win 'em all! Reform's Matt Goodwin in Sunday Times: 'Most .. people criticising me are nerds. The last thing I want is to be at some dinner party table with Nick Robinson & Mary Beard. I'd rather shoot myself in the head'. Hang on, I'm not THAT bad!Nerds sometimes have a (thoughtful!) point.

Good morning mostly there is a lot of this, this morning, but before they dumped 3m files last night, FT Weekend had a very fine collection of reads. Let's have a thread of highlights and giftlinks which will expire (and your mission is to resist the urget to complain when that happens)

Andy Burnham is now Easter. He must Make A Move on an annual basis but the actual dates may vary. He has been officially categorised as a Moveable Feast.
If I heard the reporting right this am correctly, burnham is said to have been in in indirect talks with No 10 to return, but in 2027

Unless I’m missing something that would make a nonsense of No 10’s arguments, as it would still require a GM by election
