Hi there, #portfolioday ! I’m an illustrator, graphic designer, and potter who specializes in book illustration (currently illustrating my 5th kids book & working away slowly at a graphic novel) & design/illustration for NGOs & other similar organizations!

A spread from Ghost Water Kiss, a book of short stories I wrote & illustrated, published in 2019. The image is of a surreal underwater scene with colourful seaweeds & corals with a green & mossy mermaid-like creature swimming through it. A spread from Water Water, a picture book I wrote & illustrated (published in 2021). It’s a gouache & watercolour painting that shows a cottage at night with an illuminated window so you can see the living room within. Two ghostly giant fish (a musky & a sturgeon) emerge from the lake in the background & are floating over the cottage. A spread from a report I illustrated and designed for JCRT. It shows the life cycle of a cecropia moth along a lichen-studded branch with paragraphs of text below. A poster I illustrated for a local film festival — drawn in vibrant colours it depicts a crystal mountain nestled within a lichen-y / mossy landscape with a large salamander wrapped around the base of the mountain and a little furry guy at the top telling the text of the poster in a beam of yellow light.

I’m trying to develop some new vessels/forms this year & my first one is big slab-built jars that are also sort of little narratives (at least the medieval sea one definitely is…I suppose the story of the seal one is ‘seals are pretty’ 😂)!

Broke my ankle so badly I needed 8 screws & a plate to put it back together (fracture-dislocation, broke the bottoms off my tibia & fibula)…by missing the last step on my parents’ basement stairs & landing SO badly 🥲👍

I carefully fold the holds slips from my library books into bookmarks, then curate them every once in a while & only keep the ones from books I loved, so I get a little bit of happy book-stalgia when I use them 👍

We’re both still recovering from colds, so we stayed in & made use of my neglected Criterion Channel account — started with Big Trouble in Little China & wanted something romcom-y for round two. It was a great plan!

Fun fact: If you start playing It Happened One Night (1934) at about 11:20, King Wesley’s fuckass gyrocopter thing will land on the lawn at 12;00 (also, what a sweet, funny movie?? It was also neat watching something just on the cusp of Hayes Code enforcement seeing how far they could push things)

We have wild turkeys that live in the big cemetery in our area and I got to see them on our walk yesterday!!! Every once in a while they wander down into our neighbourhood & let me tell ya — rounding a corner & seeing these dinosaurs in an urban yard? Is so surreal (& I love it!)?

Sweetest Boy in the World, a series 🥹💕

Screenshot of text reads as follows, in which I’ve highlighted the part about province-specific names for these weather systems: An Alberta Clipper is a type of low-pressure weather system that forms in Alberta or nearby, on the eastern side of the Rocky Mountains. It is a fast-moving storm, hence the name "clipper," which refers to 19th-century ships known for their speed. Depending on the province where the system approaches the Canada-United States border, sometimes it is called a Saskatchewan Screamer, Manitoba Mauler or Ontario Scary-o. It may also be called a Canadian Clipper or simply a Clipper. Such storms mostly occur in December and January but are common in the fall and spring, too. They form about 5-20 times per season.
