It’s the “season of love and giving”…but this year, doesn’t it seem more like a “season of fear and taking”? Like many of you, I’ve been saddened by the human impact of draconian government budget cuts and how angry many housed Americans are at unhoused Americans.

People love to shit on Dems but House Dems, in the face of an authoritarian executive branch and deferential House Speaker have in the first year: forced two discharge petitions (Epstein and ACA), and might win a government shutdown. Not bad for the minority!
it really feels like the end is near for Mike Johnson's speakership after a critical mass of House Republicans this morning forced a vote on ACA subsidies over his resistance

An Anti-Defamation League that actually believed in its stated mission would savage Trump for his comments about Rob Reiner and his wife, but they are too busy trying to find out whether an Oberlin student said something critical of Israel.

this is every district Trump won by +13 or less in 2024.

.....and i need people to understand that 2024 was a high water mark for Republicans. Lots of these districts were bluer in 2022 and 2020.

A coalition that ranges from democratic socialists to neoconservatives, including a lot of energized liberals in between, is large and formidable.

A big pro-democracy tent. A united front. Any internal disagreements can be hashed out once the authoritarian emergency is over.

This really can work.

The factional grifters will hate this, but the Mamdani-Spanberger-Sherrill axis actually suggests the outlines of a broad, emerging Dem coalition organized around both anti-Trump *and* affordability politics, not a party bitterly divided against itself.
These big wins will embolden Dems to take on Trump's lawbreaking and show there's a price for GOP enabling of him. Folks hate to hear this, but normal patterns are asserting themselves: Liberalism isn't dead, Rs are likely to lose in 2026, and Trump is really unpopular, not a magical exception.

Came here to say this, but Jamelle Bouie has this covered. 👇
When the Democratic tent includes candidates like Spanberger and Mamdani, there is no crisis, or fight, for the party. IT’S A COALITION, NOT A POINT ESTIMATE.
i want to repeat this: mamdani and spanberger have run similar campaigns tailored to their respective electorates and it is maddening to watch political journalists attempt to create some broad contrast where none exist
the other thing about this is that there is no reason to pit these candidates against each other? each are good fits for their respective electorates and each shows the value of vigorous campaigns focused on the stated material problems of voters.

Seeing a lot of “But they don’t deserve…” And no, of course they don’t. What the fuck does that have to do with anything? The house is on fire. Pass a bucket to whoever wants to put it out. You can remind them what an ass they’ve been later.

In the coming weeks, a lot of slow-on-the uptake folks are going to begin belatedly realizing Trump is both an inept moron and a dangerous autocrat. Our great civic challenge in these trying times will be calmly welcoming them aboard instead of primal-screaming in their faces.

I love the way things are marketed to men. We can’t just buy a candle. It has to be “General Bob’s Fire co” and the scent has to be “Battleship” and the box it comes in has to have metal rivet patterns.

Look, like I said most of the “wheee we love dead CEOs” stuff is performative and Super Online. I doubt it accomplishes anything. But the hand-wringing about it is overdone. It’s like the OJ Simpson verdict. I don’t agree with it, I don’t think it’s productive, but I understand why it happened.

this is about 24 hours out of date now but it’s good work and if you are under the impression that House Dems are staying silent about the Mace/Johnson bathroom situation, perhaps because people keep lying to you about it, you should take a look.
This is a list of statements by House Democrats defending Sarah McBride.

It does not include statements of support that make no mention of the transphobic attacks against her, or statements about transphobia that are not directly relevant. It also does not include retweets/reposts.

"Don't Engage, Just Block" is having a real effect and you can tell it's frustrating the bots, chuds and trolls. They're in my comments trying everything they can to get people there to react -- and no one's biting. And then I swing by and chuck 'em into the cornfield and that's that.
As long as we keep a culture of disengaging and blocking trolls we actually can probably keep the vibes up.

TIL that Polymarket is not only owned by Peter Thiel, but that it only takes its bets in crypto. I think that might skew it's usefulness as a predictor from "almost nothing" to "less than zero".
