Hint to Dems: "they are going to kill you" counts as a kitchen table issue to voters
if any Democrats besides AOC want to weigh in about the misrule that's already been prevalent over this first week that'd be pretty cool

Sorry, but this is just littered with disinformation. This is an ideology that is responsible for the hollowing out of ecosystem function, resilience, and biodiversity around the world. Thinking like this doesn't solve the problem it (re)creates it.
In farming, there’s a growing trend toward "mimicking nature" a strategy embraced by organic farming, regenerative agriculture, and agroecology.

The assumption? Nature knows best.

But is this true?

Let’s dig into why this idea often falls short. 1/

This amazing collaborative event ethnography is (finally) out now! It was a privilege to collaborate with so many great ethnographers to tackle COP27 from many different perspectives, and I hope folks in environmental social sciences continue to apply the CEE model. OA coming soon!
We would like to announce that a long-awaited special issue is now available in Climate and Development. The entire special issue will be free access for a year (forthcoming). Please access through your institutions for now.

Here's the reality about the #LAFires this week: this isn't the first time ANY of these places have burned. Not even close. In 2018, we mapped CA fire history to look at fire frequency across SoCal. Santa Monica Mtns area burns more than anywhere else -- up to once per decade in a given spot. 🧵

Another thing: in the race to cut fossil fuel use ASAP—which we need to do—be wary of "solutions" that increase emissions from land-use change (2nd-biggest human source of CO2) or of other major greenhouse gases (eg methane, nitrous oxide). This can happen in food/ag due to its reliance on land. 1/

it is amazing how many idiots genuinely seem to believe that the GOP actually want women’s sports to exist in any form
The end game of this was always "we have to end women's sports to protect cis women from trans women."

I hammer at this periodically, but the fear-mongering here isn't just about anti-trans rhetoric, but about promoting an image of cis women as delicate flowers.

Not the point of this thread, but “do you think Trump’s win marks the defeat of identity politics” is SUCH a tell.

His win is an absolute VICTORY for identity politics.

If we accept that “angry white evangelical grievance” is an identity.

Which is ABSOLUTELY is. Thru and thru.
Butler’s response is *exactly* correct. To accept the premise that ‘woke’ is something outside of a right wing moral panic is to be a dupe.

Students should study the humanities not because it makes them better workers but because it rips you open and breaks your brain and changes everything you thought you knew. I *promise* you this. I *promise* it has this ability, no matter how smart you think you are. I have seen it countless times.
Hearing the president of KU say that the way the humanities can protect itself - a question asked by a humanities professor of Spanish - is that her field should direct its public voice to how the Spanish language can impact AI versus the third study of an obscure play…. Just sigh.
