Why in the world does the media report breathlessly on every utterance out of tech billionaires’ mouths as if they’re the Oracle at fucking Delphi?

Oh right because billionaires own the media.

Their explicit policy platform is to keep as many of us poor and dependent on bad wages as possible.
The Trump administration will begin seizing the pay of people in default on their student loans early next year, marking the first wave of new wage garnishments since the pandemic.
Wage garnishment for defaulted student loans to resume early next year
The Education Department had stopped collecting wages to repay defaulted loans during the coronavirus pandemic.

Trump’s tariffs are a bad idea
Abundance is a bad idea

There. Pretty easy.

This is a discursive trick from Yglesias, a form of poisoning the well. “So and so is wrong about A so they are wrong about B.”

It’s also hasty generalization: trying to cast any criticism of abundance in this light.
Tariffs are Trump’s least-popular idea.

They’ve totally failed substantively.

But a little circle of brain-poisoned leftists hate “abundance” so much they want to defend Trump on trade.

The subordination of the fundamental to the contingent is the most problematic habit of the modern worldview. In this case that all new “technology” exists as an inherent unquestionable good to which humans must adapt. People should listen more to anthropologists.
This is my favorite version of the AI push — we don’t have any real ideas for how you should use it, but it’s not going anywhere, so you had better figure out a use for it and then start using it quick!

Uh, no. I don’t think I will.
Figure out how to use it. Ostrich mode will help no one.

The deployment of “ai” is not a case study in diffusion of innovation or adoption of new technology. It is a case study in coerced implementation, it is social engineering by the elite class and it’s bad for people and bad for the planet

As heartbreaking and catastrophic for science and society as the NCAR news is, despite being predictable, its just more evidence that all these people know how to do is tear things down. They will never build anything good. And that strategy has a bottom.

Serious question: Why even litigate this? Just ignore it. Make them litigate it. If CO brings it to court they are starting a process that could let this Supreme Court create (another) power the presidency doesn’t have.
President Trump says he's pardoning Tina Peters even though the law says he can't pardon state charges.

Colorado's AG tells me Peters isn't getting out while the claim is litigated.

The Trump administration plans to require all foreign tourists to provide their social media histories from the last five years to enter the country.

Yes, I said TOURISTS — not immigrants. This is insane. It will DECIMATE the U.S. tourism industry.
Foreign tourists could be required to disclose 5 years of social media histories under Trump administration plan
The Customs and Border Protection proposal would apply even to countries that don't require visas to enter.
