Proudly representing Denver in the U.S. House. Fighting for our environment, public lands & reproductive rights. Wife. Mom. Grandma. Dog lover.
Fantastic news: the Supreme Court ruled to NOT revisit the landmark Obergefell decision which legalized same-sex marriage.

This is a victory for all Americans, as no one should be discriminated against for who they love.

I say hell no to any deal that will cause millions of Americans to lose their health insurance.

Jessica from Denver lost her $650/month SNAP benefits because of the Republican shutdown, and is now stretching to feed her family of 8.

The Trump administration is deliberately choosing not to fund SNAP, and families like Jessica’s are paying the price.
How Families Are Coping with SNAP Cuts During the Shutdown
For the 42 million people who rely on the country’s largest anti-hunger program, it has been a chaotic, nerve-racking week. Here are some of their stories.

Spent this morning with my staff at the Food Bank of the Rockies Mobile Pantry helping distribute food.

Thanks to the Republican-forced shutdown, SNAP benefits have been in limbo as Trump fights tooth and nail against releasing the benefits to those in need. SNAP must be restored immediately.

Since January, we’ve pushed back against Trump through our courts, citizens, & Congress.

Courts are blocking his abuses.

Last night, citizens showed up.

Now, Congress must act.

It's time for Congressional Republicans to help us reopen the government and lower health care costs.
November 5, 2025 at 9:41 PM
It's day 36 of the shutdown—the longest on record.

Instead of working with Democrats to reopen the government, Trump is withholding full SNAP benefits from millions of Americans, while House Republicans are on a 6-week vacation. (1/2)

Donald Trump is now openly defying court orders to pay out SNAP benefits. He has made clear that he does not care about the families who rely on SNAP to put food on the table, and children are going hungry because of his cruel, illegal actions.

This is shameful.

ICE is snatching families in Colorado off the street and shipping them out of the state.

And they are denying Members of Congress our Constitutional responsibility of conducting oversight of their facilities. What are they hiding and why won’t they let us do our jobs?

At every step of the way, Trump & his Admin have acted illegally to stop November SNAP benefits from going out.

Now, after a judge has ruled the administration does have the legal authority to ensure full SNAP benefits, Trump will only do the bare minimum for hardworking Americans.
Trump administration will use SNAP contingency fund to pay partial food stamp benefits
The U.S. Department of Agriculture told a federal court that it will tap into a contingency fund to allow states to issue partial SNAP benefits.

Thanks to Congressional Republicans and Donald Trump, health care costs are skyrocketing for families in Colorado.

With open enrollment starting today, families are going to get sticker shock from the high price of their premiums. We must extend the ACA tax credits to lower these costs NOW.

Fantastic news: a US judge has blocked the Trump administration from suspending SNAP benefits.

The courts continue to show that Trump and his cronies are acting outside of the law, and we will keep fighting against their cruel, illegal efforts.
SNAP benefits must continue despite shutdown, judge tells Trump administration
The Justice Department argued that the food stamp program, which feeds more than 40 million Americans, effectively did not exist anymore due to the shutdown.

Had a great meeting with Senators from Indonesia's Regional Representative Council at World Denver today.

I appreciated the thoughtful discussion about our experiences in public service and the importance of advancing health care for all.

Health care costs are about to double for hundreds of thousands of Coloradans and Donald Trump is more concerned about the marble in a White House bathroom.
October 31, 2025 at 6:34 PM
Speaker Johnson’s current argument is “we are going to withhold SNAP benefits unless Democrats let us massively increase health care costs.”

His orders from Trump are clear: enrich Trump’s family and billionaire donors by kicking millions off of Medicaid and stripping food assistance from children.

Donald Trump just imposed the lowest-ever cap on refugee admissions into our country.

Immigrants make our country strong, and we should be a safe haven for those fleeing from conflict, persecution, famine, and other situations that make living in their homeland dangerous.
Trump administration sets lowest-ever cap on refugee admissions to U.S.
The lowest cap on refugees since the program was established in 1980 comes as the U.S. prioritizes resettling Afrikaners from South Africa.

While House Republicans haven’t shown up to work in over a month, the hardworking men and women of the Capitol Police, Sergeant at Arms, & support staff are keeping us safe and maintaining operations.

Lunch is a small token of gratitude to thank them for their tireless work while missing paychecks.

House Republicans’ refusal to end their vacation is a lot scarier than Fiona’s s’mores Halloween costume. 🎃👻

Glad to see Colorado fighting back with a lawsuit against the Trump administration withholding contingency SNAP funding.

Trump and Ag Secretary Rollins must immediately release the funding to prevent an interruption of benefits for the 600,000 Coloradans who rely on SNAP each month.
October 28, 2025 at 5:53 PM
Trump's shutdown is forcing 42 million Americans to lose access to SNAP benefits.

Despite having the contingency funds available to maintain SNAP, Trump is actively refusing to provide those benefits.

Colorado is stepping up, but families across the country will suffer because of his cruelty.
October 28, 2025 at 2:26 PM
Thanks to Trump and House Republicans, Coloradans who receive their insurance through Connect for Health Colorado are going to see their premiums double.

Trump said he had a “concept” of a plan, but the only action he’s taken has been to slash Medicaid and refuse to extend ACA premium support.
Health insurance premiums to double next year on Colorado’s individual market
The monthly “sticker price” of health insurance is rising, and households will have to pay a larger share of that monthly cost than they have since the pandemic.

Thanks to everyone who attended my tele-town hall last night.

As we continue to navigate this shutdown, I am committed to keeping you informed of our work to reopen the government and safeguard health care for all.

While Donald Trump is gutting the East Wing and buying private jets for his cabinet, Americans are getting slammed with skyrocketing insurance prices.

It’s time for House Republicans to come back from their vacation so we can reopen the government and address the health care crisis they created.
October 23, 2025 at 3:45 PM
Today, I joined @punchbowlnews.bsky.social to discuss efforts to advance commonsense health care policy—especially amid the shutdown.

As the top Dem on the Health Subcommittee, I’ve spent my career fighting for health care reform.

Now, we need the GOP majority to actually join us in that effort.
October 23, 2025 at 3:03 PM
Let's make one thing clear: we are heading into a health care crisis of the GOP’s making.

300,000 people in Colorado alone are going to see massive increases because Republicans in Congress refuse to negotiate with Democrats.
