Trump guys on Twitter are using Grok to “hunt” daycares in their nearest city to see if there are kids in them and, if there are, if they’re Somali.
This is so fucking dangerous.

You constantly hear how much more polarized we are now, and that’s obviously true, but that is presented as everyone is split right down the middle moderate instead of “65-80% of the country is held hostage by a diamond-dense (in every sense of the term) minority block of guns and money”

My opinion of the New York Times is distinctly outside the mainstream among journalists. Most think NYT is mostly excellent journalism with some flaws and blind spots, I think it's mostly a vehicle for laundering right wing propaganda with some excellent people who put out good work.
I just learned that this incredibly flawed story was put on the front page of the newspaper, and that certainly seems like an editorial choice
New, from me: The NYT reporter who specializes in profiles of beleaguered right-wingers on campus went to New College...and found out that things were going ok!

So let me explain some pretty massive errors of omission: 🧵

And their objection isn’t that they have been compelled to make such an apology, because they never have.

What they object to is that others feel the conviction to not only confess to racism’s crimes but seek to make reparation.

What this tells us is that social pressure is extremely effective.
Ok all sarcasm aside, what these white supremacists are really talking about is when they are asked to apologize for doing racist things. Which happens. Because racism is something to apologize for. What they are saying is that no one should have to apologize for racist actions or statements.
Next time someone says they don’t have to apologize for being white anymore, ask them to tell about the most recent time they were forced to apologize for being white and who made them do it.

My favorite thing about Frog and Toad is that it is the story of two men deeply and obviously in love with one another, drawn as a tribute to his lifelong partner by a gay man long before their relationship was socially sanctioned.
Then Frog and Toad went out onto the front porch to wait for the mail.

They sat there, feeling happy together.

I stand by my assertion that they simply are not smart people. They may also be bad people. But they are clearly dumb as shit.

And the thing is, they know it. And they’re tired of knowing it. And that’s what this whole conservative revolt is about. Rage about deep feelings of inferiority.

flipside of the slop tsunami: companies like Google aren't just flooding our digital existence with AI gruel, they're actively, intentionally destroying real human-created content too, because they know that we largely still value real content and that ultimately the slop can't compete
First I read that new YouTube users are served up material that is 20% AI slop.

And now, multiple cases of legitimate YouTube creators having their content stolen and being accused themselves of copyright theft.

Like this poor guy.

YouTube is destroying itself.
