By retreating only to "kitchen table issues" to avoid being labeled "woke," Democratic leaders have left an open goal for the GOP. When you treat the harassment of vulnerable communities as a "distraction" rather than a crisis, you're not avoiding a fight: you're just forfeiting it.

Why decline all these chances to defend feminism? Because to participate would be accepting the premise that our rights and humanity are up for debate in the first place.

Once you’ve conceded that it’s reasonable to ask whether women’s equality was a mistake, you’ve already lost.

Confirmed: House Democratic leaders have decided to use a stock trading ban bill as a campaign issue rather than actually pass something that had the GOP support to advance.
Jeffries' team is actively discouraging participation in the bipartisan bill and warning outside groups too.

A bipartisan solution was gaining momentum, but the House Democratic leader just issued his own bill that will prevent consensus.

The official death count in South Sudan is nearly 1,600, making it the worst cholera epidemic in the country’s history.

But that toll is a dramatic undercount.

ProPublica found newly dug, unmarked graves alongside roads and in backyards.

George Orwell went to Spain to fight fascism. Literally. Not to take holidays, but to stand against the likes of Robinson and Musk.

Orwell saw in Spain how fascist "leaders" turned resentment into organised cruelty. That is why he bled in the trenches there.

Maybe the clearest way to see it is to go back a few steps in the fascism creep.

So for instance, to answer: "should I adjust my lesson plan to remove disfavored/DEI words even though no one demanded it"

Remember school districts that took books off the shelves at the first whiff of trouble. +

It is very difficult, when organizing people in this moment, to balance two true things in tension w/ each other:

1. The threat is bigger/longer than you are perceiving and you are underreacting on offense

2. The threat is less proximate/powerful than you fear and you are overreacting on defense

yes. i don't think enough people understand how much trump dominated non-english-language media in 2024, often with blatant lies about what trump's plan and agenda were that contradicted both his actual policies and his english-language campaign/propaganda's stated policies.
Trump-Mamdani voters are not hard to understand. They're Asian or Hispanic, infrequent voters who dont follow politics, voted for Trump over cost of living & crime issues solely, and voted Mamdani cause he canvassed them and talked CoL issues.

Reminder: more than 60% of four year institutions let in at least 75% of applicants. A school with an admissions rate of 65% is one of the more selective schools in the country. College admissions shit is entirely elite neuroses about like 100 schools, or total bullshit.

But congestion pricing polled terribly.

The “popularists” who run Democratic party strategy said we shouldn’t do it. Because the polls were bad.
But public opinion can change, and politicians can and should lead it.
Vote for politicians who will lead public opinion, not follow it.
Congestion pricing by the # ‘s 6 months in:
* 67k fewer drivers entering zone daily
* Delays in Holland Tunnel down 65%
* Traffic deaths down 32% so far in 2025
* $500m projected this year for MTA capital improvements
* B’way attendance +12%
* Subway ridership +7%

So yes this program is a SUCCESS.
