I left my old job a couple of years ago. I’m getting by (just) but crikey, having done my tax return & seen how little I’m earning it was a shocker, it’s getting more & more difficult to earn money from illustration.

I have been out of action too so…I’ll get cracking!

Buy my art (FEBRUARY) 🙏🏻

The first episode of our new podcast, Folklore Matters, came out last Thursday, and we’ve got another ‘dropping’ - always wanted to say that - this Thursday. Pocket Casts seem to be slow in approving it but it’s available in all other podcast spots. Enjoy, and let us know what you think!

I haven't had a proper cold in a while, which was something of a miracle in retrospect, but I'm now getting a very visceral reminder of how much they suck. 🤧

Hey look! A new book!
Some of you may have caught The Packet serialised in ParSec magazine but this is its first outing as physical book. If you like stormy sea voyages and sci-fi, this is the one for you.
Out in April, opening for pre-order now.

In case you missed yesterday, Notepad++ auto-update mechanism was hacked and was delivering backdoored versions for a couple months. Tons of devs use this, uninstall completely what you have, search for the sus files mentioned in article and only download from official site
Notepad++ users take note: It's time to check if you're hacked
Suspected China-state hackers used update infrastructure to deliver backdoored version.

I complimented my partner on his great bootie just now and got a very unimpressed look.

I guess the fractured foot contained within said walking bootie is making him cranky. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Milton tangent complete, I am returning to my work on erased/struck out/obliterated inscriptions.

For many reasons they aren't the easiest things to locate in online catalogues. So if you come across any fun ones (esp. in books published prior to ~1750), here is a public request to think of me.

Oh dear.

Write all of the main content in Notepad and then move it into Word/PowerPoint to make it 'presentable'?

Every time I have to even briefly work on a corporate Windows machine I feel like I'm getting an insight into why so many big companies have glacial and terrible internal processes.
I honestly don't think I could do my job (document management) on those machines.

Did you have significant Git conflict during GGJ? I would love to hear what happened! A few details over posts are ok. Thanks a lot!! 🙇🏻‍♂️

Proper sections within columns would be useful, even if my columns are mostly chronological 'tasks for this day' lists.

I sort of work around that with colourful cover cards, but it'd be nice if there was something like a simple separator line.

That's fair. I run my board as a week-long thing, and export it to PDF before clearing it, but I haven't looked into turning that all into one button click.
February 2, 2026 at 9:06 AM
Oh I've wrangled my daily Trello into a similar to-do list kind of format as this. It works rather well.

This is actually very interesting because that’s what people get wrong about the Middle Ages as well. Simply put: you might know how to build aqueducts from self healing concrete but you might lose the need *and* capability to do so. Three separate things. Many misunderstand how societies adapt. 1/
It’s so weird how this article in the weekend FT conflates knowledge and capability. We didn’t forget how to go to the moon.
