We are very close to a near cure for two of the highest-mortality cancers we know: glioblastoma and pancreatic cancer. These are both mRNA based treatments which are losing their funding during stage I and II trials. Thousands will die needlessly because of this motherfucker and his lies.

Hell of a nice social safety net you have here.

Shame if something... happened... to it.
Reminder - Social Security is *your* money. You pay into it so you can collect it later. If the government shuts it down on a whim, without paying you back, that is theft.
BREAKING: Acting Social Security commissioner Leland Dudek says he is consulting with the Justice Department about shutting down the agency.

Dudek told the Washington Post: “Unless I get clarification, I’ll just start to shut it down. I don’t have much of a choice here.”

This is quite damaging to research and to individuals.

This is pure terrorism and cannot be legal. But litigation will take time...

No billionaire is the solution to anything but the source of many, many problems.

We shouldn't have to rely on the moods of some guys who own as much as 100 million of us to save the ecosystem or prevent poverty. 🤷‍♂️ Future historians will probably think we're really stupid, as a society.

This thread is a masterpiece.
We should first recognize that gender codes are socially constructed. Clothing is not inherently masculine or feminine—codes are contextual and can change over time. Aristocratic men once wore bright red heels. Then they became womenswear until that notion was challenged again.

People who refuse to sanitize what’s going on, who’s in charge on the Right, how extreme their goals are, tend to be discarded as “alarmists” or “hysterics.” Those who sanitize it all are upheld as “reasonable” voices.

As a result, the broader public perception constantly underestimates the threat.
I'm working on a couple of upcoming talks and can't get over how simply describing what is happening right now with attacks on the NSF, NIH, Diversity, etc. makes me sound like a raving lunatic.

They've launched an all-out assault on empirical reality.

The National Weather Service, which is part of NOAA, provides life saving weather forecasting in the US.

A study found that for every $1 invested in NWS, it produces $73 in value to Americans.

Again, this isn't about efficiency.

This is how scientists inside and outside the agency are feelings about the cuts to diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives. Words by me:

NASA embraced diversity. Trump’s DEI purge is hitting space scientists hard
Some researchers at NASA and outside it feel betrayed by the changes at the agency, which was known for promoting inclusion in science.
