In Goiânia, Brazil, we have little kiosks spread around town known as pitdogs. They sell "x-tudo", which are an overstuffed hamburger. The x in the name is a reference to cheese in cheeseburger (the letter x is pronounced "sheez" in Portuguese), tudo means "everything". An everything-burger.

This "haptic visuality" is what I've always meant by "texture" but didn't know how to talk about it. This is a fantastic video
This is a really remarkable video essay on contemporary film and the theories of Laura Marks. It's making me think about movies in a new way.

I tried he first Mass Effect a few years after release but I was too much of a noob to get a grip on the gameplay. Now that I'm convalescent post-surgery got the legendary edition. I've finished the first one (love it), but Mass Effect 2 feels mechanically clunky in comparison to the first.

Personally, I think the idea that all women should be measured by the failures of Hillary Clinton and Kamala Harris is actually a sort of sexist doomerism.

Had back surgery yesterday. First time I got general anesthesia. They put a mask on my face and said "breathe the OXYGEN" many times where "oxygen" was said in the same tone Ray Bradbury said "Linda" in Truffaut's Fahrenheit 451. Folks, I don't think that was oxygen.

The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy when I was 12. The only valid type of escapist fiction is the one that inspires and compels you to escape in RL.
performative reading, lack of reading skills, nobody's reading anymore -- NO!

tell me about a book that changed you

for me? the *extremely* ahistorical novel, THE AGONY AND THE ECSTASY which I read at 13 and was like, "Oh, art can be *everything* to a maker, for good and bad"

I love Mia Goth, but she was terribly miscast in Del Toro's Frankenstein. It was such a lukewarm delivery.

Such a great article about a writer I hadn't heard of until now. I need to read his works.
“War—whether it takes place between societies or within them—has no heroes, only distributions of cruelty, debasement, and ruin, a fact that is routinely denied, ignored, or repressed by those most responsible for perpetuating it.”

This has been recently changed, and even if you're pretty on-top of your moderation settings like me, they may have reset your preferences on stuff like "Rude" like they did mine. So be sure to check!
Next select Settings, and then Moderation on the next screen. At the bottom of the Moderation page under "Advanced" is a section called "Bluesky Moderation Service" that looks like an info box. It in fact leads to more settings.

Pluribus is awesome, but I wonder if they will drop the ball at some point with such neatly defined stakes so far where the little room left to expand might feel like a tangent. If they manage to keep this narrative level for the whole season it may become one of my favorite TV shows ever.
