U.S. military spending is set to hit a record $1 trillion.

Roughly half of defense spending goes to private contractors that routinely price-gouge the government.

Meanwhile, the Pentagon has failed EIGHT straight audits.

This is the military industrial complex on steroids.

TImeline rage break. I decided to review TSA's list of what we can bring on airplanes and had a good chuckle over this one.

Wow, different perspective here. I asked a dear friend who is from Venezuela, still has family there, and has been sending care packages there for years his thoughts on this morning's news. As outsiders, this is worth a read and listen....1/3 www.threads.com/@williamsacr...

All right. There's the confirmation. Call your US reps and tell them to impeach. Call your US senators and tell them to publicly support impeachment. blacksky.community/profile/did:...

🧵Look at that.

The VP of Venezuela has fled to Russia.

That leaves the Minister of the Interior as the next biggest figure.

Just watch. He'll take the money and run too.

This reeks of a plea deal with Trump, not a capture.

This is why....

Looks like I will be making some more pissed-off phone calls to my Senators today. There is also an emergency "No War on Venezuela" protest at Boise's Capitol today at 5 p.m.

Fairbanks is in a deep freeze & SE Alaska is buried. From Alaska Magazine: The record snow in Juneau sank at least 8 boats in the harbor, collapsed FM gas station roof, cut power out the road, closed the ski area, and today crews will attempt avalanche control over roads. Juneau Harbor photos

My first birds of the year were the Mallards in our canal when I went out to throw them some cracked corn, but there was a special treat with them--a male Wood Duck. What a gorgeous bird! (photo taken by my husband several years ago)

Thank you all for keeping this misbegotten year tolerable. Some of us are really struggling but it lifts my heart to see everyone reaching out to comfort and help those they can. A kind word or a small gift can make a huge difference. The kindness I see in all of you gives me hope. Happy New Year!

Jim and I headed over to Caldwell for dinner with my sisters and brother-in-law at Amano and a stroll around Indian Creek Plaza, before hurrying home before the partiers hit the roadways. I hope everyone (and their dogs) stay safe tonight!

It's been so cold for so long in Interior Alaska the train service between Fairbanks and Anchorage has been halted. I don't remember that ever happening before. The Whistle Stop train (which is a hoot) north of Talkeetna will run on January 3 to get cabin owners back home. 1/3

Today is a pretty sad and very sobering day for me. I’m spending my day processing Prior Authorizations for 2026. I think people are going to be SHOCKED how many people are loosing insurance coverage. Between ACA credits lost and Medicaid fuckery, there is WAY more than 25 million loosing coverage.

Excellent article. "A 2023 paper found nearly 80% of all structure loss in the West over the 3 most recent decades occurred in grass or brush fires." But we keep getting rid of green farmland & building out into highly flammable cheat grass. Even city folks face premium increases as risk increases.
Here's my deep dive on the serious homeowners insurance situation that Idaho is facing and some possible ways forward. The reporting forced me to rethink some of my assumptions, and I hope it helps folks better understand this serious problem. www.boisestatepublicradio.org/politics-gov...
As evidence of Idaho homeowners insurance crisis mounts, so does bipartisan concern
New data also points to major insurance impacts in places surprising to many, including the Snake River Plain.

Take it IN to the post office if it's important - they will postmark it if you ask!
As of 12/24/25, USPS changed policy on when they postmark mail. Mail dropped off is no longer guaranteed a same-day postmark. Tax returns & other time-sensitive items are now stamped when they reach a regional processing center, which may be days later. Plan deadlines accordingly to avoid penalties.
