Bird nerd, Tali's person, master naturalist, Boise State alum, 4th gen Idahoan and former Alaskan.
Is it just me, or does this 1920s child's car seat look like a little electric chair?

Whoops, there is no third post. Here's an aurora taken in Alaska last night by my friend Don Kiely instead. A very pretty curtain of lights.

2/2 Another unique aurora photo by Shelby Henery from the Idaho Through the Lens FB page. There are plenty of "How to photograph the aurora" tutorials on line to help you, including framing and for when shooting with a phone camera. Good luck! #IdahoEscape

1/3 My favorite photo from last night, taken by Josh Packer at Falls Creek Falls in easter #Idaho. If you are chasing the northern lights tonight, try to choose an interesting setting. We are fortunate to have liquid water right now, which makes for nice reflections. #IdahoEscape

My sweet Tali, soaking up the sun.

Honoring some of my ancestors and a sibling, aunt, niece and uncles on this Veterans Day. I also thank those ancestors who served in the Union Army and the American Revolutionary War. Hat tip to all of my friends--and those I don't know--who served as well!

Told my husband "Do not leave leaf bags by the sidewalk on weekends." Perfect kick targets for the ruffians that walk by here at night. He didn't believe me. (And before you go all "Don't rake!" on me we leave about 1/3 of what comes off our 19 trees. Otherwise they mold and kill the grass & plants)

A not surprising story by Emily Schwing with @propublica.org about Alaska's long-neglected rural schools. “It is a known fact that if you need to evacuate, you evacuate to the elementary school.” The problem is a long history of avoidance by GOP leaders and the voters who put them in charge.

Sounds like no life-threatening injuries, fortunately.

I chuckled seeing these this morning, in large part because the pole is across the street from our Maga neighbor who got creamed in the recent city council race. I'm surprised she hasn't run her Trump flag back up her pole yet (she took it down when she announced her campaign).

I love my dog.

New presidential portrait. Art or not art?

One more Halloween yard decor I liked this year, probably because I love the movie Beetlejuice. Then my husband caught two Bobs on the street that evening.

I forgot to share a few more fun Halloween decorations from our neighborhood. This one depicting the PBS painter Bob Ross made me laugh.

Great photo! We saw a few of these guys in Tanzania and I felt I could have watched them for a few hours. I loved it when the dung ball got away from them and they had to climb on top to get their bearings (sound up).

Just saw the first Anna's Hummingbird of the season at our feeder. It's crazy that they overwinter in places like Boise and even SE Alaska now. The northward expansion of the winter range is a relatively new phenomenon. Photo from several years ago.

What an unexpected treat to have a friend from Alaska stop by for a chat! Darla (middle) is crazy tough Idaho-to-Alaska girl, having started her fire service career as a smokejumper and Helitack crew member. We handled dogs together for the Iditarod start a few times--great memories!

Boise-area peeps who feed birds: here's a way to stock up on seed and support our great nature center. You can pre-order seed until November 21. Message me and I can email you the form.

Yet another back surgery to deal with a toadstool growing between some vertebrae.

If any Boise region folks want to help IDF&G with post-fire habitat restoration, here are some upcoming opportunities. Message me for details.

Yeah, but they just looked like a bunch of grouse strutting out there.

Closest one I’ve seen is in Preston, but you need your own rope and ball. I will keep an eye out for one here.

He’s a sweet kid. Two Christmases ago we sponsored a special needs kid that’s a major Broncos fan, and Maddux and some buddies showed up with team swag for him. He continues to encourage the young man.

When I lived in Fairbanks we were lucky to get 1 or 2 kids (it was dark and usually very cold). We had a better chance of a moose coming by for a frozen treat.
