This is an absolutely horrendous (+NSFW) read but a very funny one, and a good primer for all the non-'sickos' (his words!) who keep hearing about RFK Jr and Lizzas and Nuzzis and feeling confused.

Had to get scran at the Xmas market as I was too early for something but too far a walk from my usuals.

Ambience: 7/10 (actually accessible given it's a rainy Wednesday)
Speed & quality of service: 8/10
Scran: 5/10 (how do you make a smoked bratwurst BLAND?!)
Armed police: thankfully absent.

Pediatricians say vaccines do not cause autism. A bear-eating heroin addict who fantasizes about sucking his own semen out of his lovers' orifices says they do. For busy parents, it can be hard to know who to trust.

Seeing this on Friday with the same two friends (+two other lovely ones this time) that I saw Knives Outs 1 and 2 with. Much excite. I hope we never learn why Benoit has his hair like that now.
TODAY! #WakeUpDeadMan! THEATERS! 600 US screens, 500 more internationally, hopefully more to come in the next week. See my pinned post for a theater finder. I’m so proud of this movie and everyone’s work on it, I hope you enjoy it!

I absolutely resent that this harebrained fantasy scheme of the ripping up of due process is making me agree with KEMI BADENOCH. HOW LOW HAVE YOU FALLEN.

I've been quite good at walking to and from work but I left earlier into cold so biting my hands immediately hurt and I just wilted. Couldn't do it.

yes I don't really see how you can go "oh yikes these people have changed their political views incredibly quickly, mostly because of what Very Online people talk about on social media" and also think that people who went from never talking about gender to calling trans women predators are....normal
I don’t like subtweeting people I consider online friends, but there is a subset of people who are very worried about the ongoing radicalisation of our political elite but won’t ever acknowledge the echoes with the radicalisation of their colleagues on trans rights
And few who are sympathetic to us, some who are friendly with me on here, will ever stick their head above the parapet

Does anyone have any suggestions on:
(a) first Pratchett for a 13yo boy? Start at the beginning, or not?
(b) fantasy novels for the same 13yo?
Advice from booksellers or former booksellers particularly welcome (hint hint @ewacat.bsky.social ).

It’s perplexing that the BBC is currently under scrutiny for a supposed liberal bias in favour of trans rights.
Here, a spokesperson for an anti-trans group is quoted, the article says that trans inclusion would be illegal (it wouldn’t) and lists an anti-trans organisation for more info.

I don't doubt that some women feel unsafe walking in the dark, but this article would have been much improved if the writer had included the information that most violence against women is committed by people we know and not by randoms on the street.
'Dark winter nights feel like an unspoken curfew for women'
Women in the north west of England speak of how they have to be more cautious as nights turn dark.

The one upside of the first test ending after two days is that, unlike the last two nights, my subconscious isn't going to keep waking me up at stupid o'clock at the morning shouting, "CHECK THE SCORE!!!" at me. #thecricket

I'm doing karaoke later. I've not done karaoke in a couple of years and - to my shame - have only done it a handful of times across my adulthood. Park your song suggestions for me here. I'll do your favourite and attempt to film it. GO!
