I don’t think that RCV mattered that much in the NYC dem mayoral primary. Mamdani was ahead in the first round, and without RCV, Lander would have likely dropped out and endorsed him, resulting in a bigger first round lead.
this is such an important point... it's easy to talk about individual candidates and ignore the structural conditions. clearly RCV mattered a ton in NY. and with our enormous mayoral fields in Chicago it would make a huge difference here.
Brandon Johnson was the "coalition with Liberals and the Teachers Union to prevent Paul Vallas" candidate much more than any other dynamic, and without Ranked Choice Voting, we're going to have our elections driven much more by that type of thing than charismatic leftists.

I think that a series of games like Papers Please, where you are a bureaucrat trying to implement means testing and balancing the tradeoffs would be pretty good for exploring those with people who haven’t thought about it much.
