I don’t think that RCV mattered that much in the NYC dem mayoral primary. Mamdani was ahead in the first round, and without RCV, Lander would have likely dropped out and endorsed him, resulting in a bigger first round lead.
this is such an important point... it's easy to talk about individual candidates and ignore the structural conditions. clearly RCV mattered a ton in NY. and with our enormous mayoral fields in Chicago it would make a huge difference here.
Brandon Johnson was the "coalition with Liberals and the Teachers Union to prevent Paul Vallas" candidate much more than any other dynamic, and without Ranked Choice Voting, we're going to have our elections driven much more by that type of thing than charismatic leftists.

How do you explain what happened to your past self once you transitioned?
Are they dead? Alive within you? Never alive in the first place? Or something else entirely?

I’m struck by how an organic add like this would be impossible to make in the midwest because each conversation would be 3-4 hours long.

Later that year, he decided to emigrate to Liberia with his wife & daughter after the Dred Scott case denied Black people protections of U.S. citizenship. He was denied a passport.

I think that a series of games like Papers Please, where you are a bureaucrat trying to implement means testing and balancing the tradeoffs would be pretty good for exploring those with people who haven’t thought about it much.

This is actually a concrete and simple example of how benefits effectively pay for themselves. The choice here is between
1) SNAP
2) Grocery stores jacking up prices enough to cover losses
3) Police salaries

this is meant to demonstrate "look how hard it is to label people, so you should value the people that are experts in this"
while my takeaway is "everyone is fucking crazy and you should stop trying to triangulate some bonkers messaging to appeal, expecting to overlap more than a few at a time"

People want some way to vote against the behavior they are observing and dislike, and it would be better to give them some way of doing that in a way that is less harmful than their current option.
It’s crazymaking to watch people nod sagely about findings that are just demonstrably untrue.
What is true, I think, is Dems keep trying to run cautious meat and potatoes races only to be tagged in the public mind with all the social issues their opponents obsess over and they leave unanswered.
