People who think AI tools like ChatGPT do a great job at summarising and interpreting research papers have not both read the papers and use ChatGPT. Goodness its performance is awful.

Ahhh feeling this again. Another bit of bad news just as I am feeling a bit like myself after surgery. It’s never ending. I wish I had just one appointment where I’d go and see a surgeon and oncologist and they’d tell me “things are going great”. Or one treatment that wasn’t torture.
Cancer treatment is like being saved from a deadly house fire by being thrown into a septic tank head first. Like I’m grateful to be alive but I’m also dealing with a lot of shit.

Are you or do you have a PhD student who uses digital tools for monitoring any health condition OR who works in clinical psych or neuro, and who is interested in doing a research visit to Bristol? We have a small amount of funding available and I’m keen to host seis.bristol.ac.uk/~nb14397/phd...

Everywhere, the right wing calls those it opposes "communists." Even here in Finland, even supposedly sane and moderate people have started doing that.
FYI for foreigners - Mamdani is not a communist. That's what the right wing calls anyone who wants to spend tax money to benefit the public, like providing free childcare or increasing bus service.
True Americans cut taxes and tell citizens* to go fuck themselves.

This was years ago. I got into a small argument with a guy because he thought Moomins were annoying and claimed they were American. They're neither of those things, they're adorable and Finnish like me. It took WAY too long to realise he mistook Moomins for Mormons. Still makes me laugh.
Do you remember sharing a story about talking to a guy who mixed up Moomins and Mormons? Might have been on LinkedIn. But I recently talked to a friend who's spent time in Helsinki and who's a big Moomin fan, and the story came up 😅

It wasn’t until I undertook my degree that I truly understood critical thinking/enquiry and writer bias - school didn’t equip me adequately for this. So this is excellent news and they need to start in primary school!
School pupils are to be taught how to tackle conspiracy theories, spot 'fake news' & root out misinformation. The Daily Mail, ajudged by Wikipedia to be an unreliable new source, is furious. You don't have to be Sherlock Holmes to work out why.

Ordinary members of the public work like dogs and yet never get to step foot in, let alone live in, Sandringham. Most of us are barely getting by, and are financially devastated when we can't work. Most of us won't retire until we are in our mid to late 70s.

Poor Prince Andrew, who if he were anyone else would be rotting in a prison cell, is having to give up his god-given birthright of being a prince, and is instead destined to live in this pit. What a punishment.

My uncle took this photo yesterday. The blue building, entirely gone. Lucky that the yellow building survived and that a neighbour called the emergency services as it burnt overnight and the tenants were sleeping in the main house

As if not enough bad luck for one year, here’s our brand new garage and sauna today. The build wasn’t quite finished and unsure if insurance will cover any of it. Sigh. FML.
