SUPERB and angrily unvarnished response, by former BBC chairman, Lord Patten.

He reminds me of my dear Dad during his later stage of dementia. He always had to sway along to any music. Trump has been doing that a lot lately.
They had to write that down for him too, he’s certainly slurring his words even more than usual.

Well the target to remain below 1.5C above 1850 levels wasn’t created out of thin air.

The idea was to avoid finding out which tipping points exist and which thresholds we might breach.

By colossal failure we are about to find out.

5-6 events per decade had been normal

Just the last two winters we had 4-5

Now we have the next

So this is straight from Farage.
David Allen Green - extracts:
“The inconvenient truth: the programme was not actually broadcast in the United States.

There is no evidence in the letter that anyone in the United States, let alone Florida, either saw the programme or even know of its existence”

It’s not just Farage. This is an orchestrated campaign, with the whiff of Cummings.
The "appropriate response" is to broadcast everything that Trump did and said on that appalling day for American democracy and then to tell this moron to sling his hook.
I might be wrong, but this stinks of Pharage involvement.

For so many years the rightwing UK media, especially the Murdoch press, has gaslit us that the BBC is leftwing.

They think we are idiots and we haven’t noticed stuff like the relentless platforming of Farage.

End political appointments to the BBC.

Now.

We badly need a properly functioning BBC.

It is essential for our democracy.
But that is not enough. No.10 should never have been in a position to install Gibb in the first place. It shouldn't control the board membership, the DG appointment, or the purse strings. What's required is genuine independence for the BBC.

Exactly that. So now Farage, constantly platformed and promoted by bbc news, bites one of the hands that feeds him. It would be funny if it wasn’t so dangerous. It’s also a great distraction from claims of Russian interference.
For the last 9 years, especially during the Cambridge Analytica/Vote Leave/Russian embassy era, I’ve had my documented criticism of the BBC’s political coverage.

But I still support its mission and its many great journalists, some now finally speaking up against the obvious coup

Once every 20 years or so, the director-general of the BBC is forced to resign for being insufficiently rightwing. Alastair Milne in 1987. Greg Dyke in 2004. Tim Davie in 2025. The great irony is that the BBC was in all cases profoundly biased towards established power. But just not biased enough …
