what worries me most is that if he pulls off anything - lowered drug prices, higher salaries, etc. - a lot of people are going to be a-okay with trans people and immigrants being thrown under the bus.

If you still need evidence that this was never about “legal immigration,” I’m not sure what to tell you. This person followed every rule, showed up to their oath ceremony, and was arrested anyway. This is cruelty as policy, not public safety.
