Something I'm excited to do for 2026 is a read-or-rehome challenge. I'm picking 10 books that have been on my shelf for varying amounts of time, and by the end of the year, the plan is that I either got the nudge I needed to read them, or if I bounced off any, send them along.
But I can already recreate orders from last purchase in many platforms? And the rest is generally, you know, conversation with the people I'm with to negotiate an order where the order has something for each of us.
Fuck's sake, it's time-honored tradition to be indecisive on food order as a group.
at last we will be free from the backbreaking drudgery of ordering pizza from a menu and even counting how many people the pizza is for www.theverge.com/tech/863365/...

I'm gonna say this with all the kindness in my heart: you aren't going to survive if you don't let your life have room for other things.

This is not a short term fight where we can just go 24/7 and then it will be over. We've got YEARS ahead of us. Take a break. Hydrate. Go bake something. Breathe.

This is delightful.

Since getting my electric spinning wheel, I've jokingly started referring to the other one as my "analog wheel."
Acoustic guitars used to just be called ‘guitars.’

Then, we invented electric guitars. Oh no.

Which meant saying ‘guitar’ wasn’t clear enough.

So 'guitars' became 'acoustic guitars.'

‘Acoustic guitar’ is an example of a ‘retronym.’

From a good friend in Minneapolis: "Target is allowing ICE to stage in their parking lots, use their restrooms, and abduct people from inside their stores - so if you weren’t boycotting already, now is the time." They were staging in Chicago as well.

Another reminder:
- meds
- hydrate
- eat something
- turn off autoplay of video/gifs if you haven't already
- you don't have to watch the videos
- stay safe, be smart
- sometimes it's good to not post (or read)
- shutting the fuck up is a valid strategy at times

I don't care if cats decided to domesticate themselves and are manipulating us to do their bidding. My life is better for their having done so.
This place needs some Innocuous Discourse pronto. Quote this with a take that’s not political or aggressive

setting an intention for SFF publishers in 2026 that they will put a "previously on" page at the front of the book when they are publishing sequels

I'm pretty sure I popped into this bathroom playing Left 4 Dead.
Y’all ever walk into a public restroom and immediately whisper “Jesus Christ”

Please please please.

I love me a grump/ sunshine story as much as the next, but that isn't enough to decide if the _story_ will interest me.

(And stop using reverse grump/ sunshine for stories where the grump is a woman, but that's a different complaint.)
Thinking of how I can trick romance authors into promoting their books with a one sentences description of what actually happens again. We gotta ease off the trope only vibes. WHAT HAPPENS!

Ooh I like this idea!
a thing I proposed on discord which I’m super excited about:

one-chapter-of-nonfiction-you-own book club. so: once a week (or more, I’m not your boss), pick up a nonfiction book you have on hand and read 1 chapter. doesn’t have to be sequential, doesn’t have to be the same book week to week.

Holy shit, this is gonna be my next on-repeat song for a bit.
2025 has been an extremely difficult year but I will say that at least MUSE gave us a new song and UNRAVELLING is A BANGER:

Real talk, this is a big perk of board or role playing games.

Knitting social hours too.

I'm really an introverted indoor cat though, so this is personally my speed, though it might not be everyone's 😅

One of the most incredible shots I've ever gotten, in Yellowstone. This coyote walked over a ridge in the blowing snow and posed for me, with a small grin on its face, the snowfalkes like stars in the background.

The desolation and beauty of life and nature is grounding, and so good for the soul.

Something else cool I did in 2025 was get out to see some concerts. I love live music!

First concert of the year was Paris Paloma, a bucket list item.

Second was Bloodywood, Indian nu metal with amazing energy.

Third was Murder By Death's farewell tour.

And! I'm seeing a friend play tonight!

Had a conversation with a friend last week; she said she feels awkward about getting gifts bc she's a minimalist and might not keep it.
I assured her a gift wasn't a forever obligation to keep.
Today, I put some gift mugs I've never loved or used in the thrift store bag. Listened to my own words.

* I learned the ins and outs of a new software after very jarring turnover at work.
* Kept crafting and making on the regular (fiber arts).
* Rediscovered the joy of reading poetry.
* Read pretty broadly in general, though still with pronounced favorites.
* Tried some new to me knitting techniques
Quote this with what you have accomplished in 2025, no matter how big or small
Reading & writing has kept me alive this year.

Somehow, it’s been my most productive year as an author.

Had a hankering to watch Little Women today because it has very Christmas-y moments.

I appreciated what Greta Gerwig did in her telling, but this 1994 version is one of my core pieces of media, and it's warm-fuzzies every time as the familiar lines and notes of the soundtrack hit.
*contented sigh*

Alt: A brief gif from the opening of 1994's Little Women, with Susan Sarandon as Marmee reading a letter with her four girls clustered around her.
