“If you don't really have a viable use for that huge stadium after the Olympics, it just might be that you’re not the kind of city that should host the Olympics at all.” — @brenttoderian.bsky.social
Should your city want to host the Olympic Games?

Having planned for one city after the Games (Calgary), planned one city before and during (Vancouver), and advised one city during bidding & a referendum (Oslo), I’d say most cities shouldn’t, and it depends a LOT on WHY you want it.

Plus read this.
3 Lessons Every Olympic City Should Take to Heart
Done right, the Olympics can increase a city's public spaces and public transportation use.

The 215 Rapid bus is the busiest bus line in the system and the mayors office has removed a portion of the dedicated bus lanes that serve it... as part of the deal they made with the San Diego Zoo on paid parking.
And, this past week Caltrans/city removed the dedicated bus lane on Park Blvd. We’re going backwards, transit-wise. The airport, Balboa Park, and Harbor lack transit facilities because we don’t care. Transit service is completely missing from the BP parking fiasco dialogue. Backwards…

Thursday afternoon in Balboa Park… plenty of parking available now, no lines at the museums, and the first month generated $600,000 in fees ($7m in 2026). So, everyone loses. (When you build for cultural and social value, it always equates to economic value, while the converse is not as true.)

Truly love San Diego. I’d only change how cheap we are when it comes to parks, mobility, and street trees. Otherwise, wow.

These 3 ‘reforms’ are actually just standard practices… reform would be restructuring ICE and providing public services that serve our common good. Demanding standard practices is to acknowledge injustices. We’re too timid with this demon cabinet.
Please call your senators and tell them to demand rescission of the ICE/CBP funding under the BBB.
SCHUMER says Democrats are “united” behind three DHS reforms

1/ End roving patrols; tighten the rules on warrants and require ICE to coordinate with local authorities.

2/ Enforce accountability; a uniform code of conduct.

3/ Require masks off, body cameras on, agents carry ID.

Today is International Holocaust Remembrance Day — and with masked troops in our streets, law-abiding neighbors being disappeared, a president othering and dehumanizing entire communities in our country, and big mysterious prisons awaiting his scapegoats, history is speaking to all of us.
Hitler, Jews, and the Holocaust
Hitler blamed Jews for Germany’s problems. Over the years, the Nazis targeted Jews with increasingly evil treatment, leading to the "Final Solution" — mass extermination. We visit the Auschwitz-Birken...

The biggest shift I’ve noticed in GOP response to shootings is they’ve stopped sending “thoughts and prayers.” It’s a more honest hate and discontent message.
