Crazy week with the group ride, live event and a day trip to LA but I still made it to pilates
Finally heard a bus driver get on the mic to tell a guy to use headphones or turn his phone sound off. These transit workers are upholding civilization for us all

When I joined SD YIMBY Dems in 2018, leadership asked us to get into community planning groups and start to change the conversation. We spent a lot of hours in church meeting rooms and lost a lot of good volunteers. The city is still committed to ye old community engagement, but we had to move on
Also YIMBYs really did spend a lot of time at local meetings attempting to persuade neighbors, NIMBYs to be more open to multifamily housing. I myself attended dozens of meetings and hearings like this.

Some people are dug in and need to be rolled. Real political reform requires conflict.

In 2018, then-Mayor Ada Colau called Barcelona’s new 30% inclusionary housing requirement for projects over 600m^2 a “paradigm shift,” making housing “a right and not a commodity.” It was supposed to produce 330 affordable units a year. The reality: just 31 affordable apartments in all these years.

Holy shit dude how did this driver get on the Perishing bikeway??

This bottom floor used to be parking and now it's an apartment! Every unit counts

Trying to calm myself down and not go on a yard sign vandalism rampage. Btw this is the "affordable housing" they wanted to save from being developed into an apartment building on A St

I want the city to do the vacation rental tax just to shut up the "we'd have enough housing if we just got rid of Airbnb" dummies

the people long for ornamentation
@alfredtwu.com absolutely had the right idea getting ornamentation into the North Berkeley BART design standards as an option in lieu of articulation/breaking up the massing/dissimilar materials. We should keep adding provisions like that, and make the nice building below possible here once more.
Imo Chicago infill architects are getting pretty good at these historicist brick facades

San Diego county turning solidly blue in the last decade has been a really nice surprise.

I deserve some type of medal for leaving my home *in the dark* to go to the gym on the Monday after the time change

Hahahaha
I have it on good authority that this section of Class IV bike lane should be completed in . . . 2023, MdlC! 🤪

Traffic engineers designing the main entrance road to the city's largest university:
Let's give the drivers at least two 10' wide 50 MPH lanes in each direction.
And the cyclists? Hmm maybe we could squeeze a few inches for them between the speeding cars and this wall of poison oak

Why keep San Diego Ave open to car traffic on Old Town's busiest weekend of the year? Just so frustrated drivers can circle through the center of the dia de los muertos festivities looking for non-existent parking spots?

Alejandro Kirk, we still love you, our Tijuanense hometown king!

It's not right that the clubs force us to pay $20+ for special perreo/Bad Bunny theme nights just to dance to latin music. This music is extremely popular. It's San Diego. The DJs should be playing Spanish language music every night because it's what the people want

Ya this video is pretty much how I feel about living in San Diego: pretty good, except infuriatingly bad compared to how good it could be

Can we all please take a minute to tell Matteo/Buona Forchetta owners that this fucking sucks? How can we explain to them that these claims about protecting the community are bullshit?

Oh my god my mom has been radicalized by Donald Shoup 🥲

Brilliant. The city made signs to show how parking meter revenue funds real, tangible improvements in the neighborhood. This is how you communicate the true cost of parking!

I'm still kinda wincing and putting off watching the CityNerd San Diego video. I'm a huge critic of San Diego and I know there's plenty to skewer, but there's also so much that people don't understand about our border city and we are so much more than freeways and nice weather

It's currently 84 degrees in San Diego and I wouldn't want it any other way
