From my handwritten 1984 manuscript of Michael Brecker on Invitation. To be consistent with my other transcriptions on my blog I input this into Finale — but I think this handwritten version is quite lovely and readable, though my quarter note rests are pretty idiosyncratic.

Reconciliation without reparation is one of supremacy's greatest sabotages of the act of repair. Whenever abuse is exposed, it offers free exoneration to the abuser at the expense of the abused, and calls it redemption. It's the traditional and popular response to abuse in our supremacist society.
Leaders of a Minnesota church community didn’t report a parishioner they knew had sexually abused girls for year.

They told his victims that once sins were “washed away in the blood of reconciliation,” they could never speak of them again.

Young Girls Were Sexually Abused by a Church Member. They Were Told to Forgive and Forget.
In Minnesota, leaders of an Old Apostolic Lutheran Church community enabled a child abuser by telling his victims that once the sins were “washed away in the blood of reconciliation,” they could never...

"The girl in Steely Dan's 'Hey Nineteen' would be 64 today" I shout into my empty townhouse while pushing my walker, trying to find my reading glasses.

Being very stoned and trying to tell someone I'm going to "Refill my water bottle" but saying by mistake "Rebound my water biffle," I still think about that a lot.

One of my prettiest tunes, recorded 14 years ago today in the amazing recording facilities at Eastman School of Music, featuring the legendary baritone saxophonist Bruce Johnstone as soloist.

We’re not dealing with brilliant strategists cleverly laying traps, we’re dealing with impulsive whiners whose advantage is contempt for laws, norms, and morality.

They’re not pulling some elaborate trick, they’re just willing—even eager—to do things regular, principled people consider off limits.

I've said forever that based on my experience Buffalo is the easternmost Midwestern city, so I endorse this map!
This is the most accurate depiction of the Midwest to date. Wichita has always felt like the last Midwest city while also being the first plains city.

Feel so dumb that I missed "labializing" in yesterday's Spelling Bee, considering that I use it all the time in one of my catchphrases: "There you go, labializing again."

Unfortunately, at least so far, all the folks you might have hoped would've been raptured still seem to be here.

I have no idea how they were.

I think it's important to understand that people who identify as conservatives have not, as a group, turned away as their party has gone to full mask-off fascism whatsoever, so we can see their true ideology and we can stop pretending to believe in the fake ideology they propounded to disguise it.
Wanna point out that although they call themselves conservatives & even think they're conservatives, I think it's important to distinguish between this ideology and actual conservatism

People who believe in nothing but that they should have this kind of power aren't conservatives; they're fascists
Conservative ideology boils down the exclusive franchise to murder others, and if you think that's overstating it, I would invite you to observe that hundreds or thousands of unofficial lawless kidnappers cosplaying as official lawless kidnappers is no threat whatsoever to the conservative mind.

I'd just like to point out how weird it is that places with hundreds or even thousands of reporters — the NYT, WaPo, CBS, NBC, AP, etc. — are all getting pummeled on every major story by the dozen computerboys at Wired. To fumble the bag this consistently is, at some point, cowardice and a choice.
