On Thanksgiving, the immigrant children held at the Dilley detention center gathered in the gym for what they thought was a holiday feast.

The kids salivated over a spread of turkey, sandwiches, pastries and pies, a family told me.

But the food wasn’t for detainees — it was for the staff.

appreciate that greg has been highlight the short-term thinking by lots of dem strategists on immigration, and that there are strong counterexamples of dems being successful taking another path
The extraordinary public backlash to Trump's ICE raids and mass deportations suggests it's time to rethink how information warfare and political persuasion work in the Trump era. Dems have an opening to reset the immigration debate if they act now.

New piece from me:

How the Democrats Can Play Offense on Immigration
Typically, Democrats run for the hills when immigration comes up. But as two blue-state governors are showing, the winning play is actually to confront ICE and MAGA xenophobia head on.

“I don't see any plan, any strategy, any end game,” says Pat Parenteau, a professor of environmental law at the University of Vermont. “I don't see anything from this administration, just fuck everything up as much as you can. You can print that.”

Sounds accurate to me.

They drove through Minneapolis, detaining people at random; broke into their cars and homes without warrants; and beat or shot either the Brown people they were almost exclusively pursuing or nonviolent protesters

Scouring the streets and denying people their rights was EXACTLY what they were doing

Pam Bondi essentially refused to testify. Serious question: Why is no one trying to charge her with Contempt of Congress?

Important 🧵 on the concentration camp system.
I don’t really know what I expect in posting this, but maybe some people see it and can learn from it.

I’ll call it “lessons from an unwilling immigration attorney.”

People say we can't compare this to the Third Reich because of the atrocities but we only found out about the atrocities after the fact when it was all said and done and we're not done with this yet so I am sure the worst stomach churning shit has yet to be revealed.
ICYMI: The US is currently holding three times as many people in immigrant detention as were detained in the Nazi concentration camp system in spring 1939 — six years into the Third Reich, and just before the start of World War II.
