(NYT) - President Trump inherited an economy that was, by most conventional measures, firing on all cylinders. .. Just weeks into Mr. Trump’s term, the outlook is gloomier.

“.. Witness Trump’s bizarre pattern of threatening small countries and allies instead of adversaries — nations from Canada to Denmark and Panama. Whereas the US used to attract other countries by promising to enhance their safety and freedom, it now repels them.”

Just a quick observation that amid all the turmoil created by the Zelensky meeting, this got completely ignored: A Chinese citizen paid Trump $50 million for the SEC to drop its charges against him.
BREAKING

The SEC has just halted its fraud prosecution of Justin Sun, a Chinese national who has put more than $50 million in Trump's pocket since November through the purchase of crypto tokens from a Trump-backed company, World Liberty Financial.

This man is barely even a formal government employee, let alone elected or Senate-confirmed. A total failure of the Constitutional order, just broadcast & normalized by every major media outlet.
Elon Musk is now presiding over the cabinet meeting. They're not beating the co-president allegations. (And co-president might be putting it charitably for Trump.)

As a political scientist who studies countries that managed to stop the slide into authoritarianism, I can assure you that ***refraining from provoking the authoritarian*** is not how it works.

Without further ado, I will now go tear out another chunk of hair.

On Friday night, HHS ordered CDC to take down all flu vaccine campaign materials from its website. Materials are starting to come down.
For example, a campaign explaining that flu shot can reduce flu severity from "wild to mild" is now offline. Left image is from Friday, right is now

America's greatest force multiplier and global strength has been its network of allies. Popular lore now sees them as a burden. So America is killing its alliances. The Trump-Musk-Vance administration's moves are an act of epic self-harm.

if we had to listen to SPEECHES from A LITTLE GIRL, surely it’s fine to give the richest person in the world free rein to shutter and dismantle US agencies with global impacts and grant him unchecked access to all the confidential information held by the government.

Kash Patel isn’t stupid per se but he’s going to encounter people a lot smarter than he is who are going to allow him to hang himself, both by resignations and by letting him broadcast his crimes.
Just to underscore the tension at DOJ at the moment, here's what one federal law enforcement official told me about the acting deputy attorney general:

"I, along with other career FBI and DOJ personnel that I’ve spoken with, really have one message for him and that is, “go fuck yourself, traitor.'"
Trump’s feared DOJ enforcer has a secret: He, too, investigated Jan. 6
The acting DOJ official behind a potential witch hunt against prosecutors and FBI agents who investigated the Capitol riot worked on Jan. 6 cases himself.

The URLs are kind of a red herring here. They were probably used for trolling.

But an imagehost for sharing encrypted, untraceable *images* with no logging on Discord and other social media... Anyone with any kind of Trust and Safety background knows exactly what it was intended to be used for.
Scoop: DOGE's Edward "Big Balls" Coristine launched a privacy-focused image-sharing site in 2021 that allowed users to create custom URLs. The URLs that redirected to Coristine's site referenced the sale of child sexual abuse material, racial slurs, and rape

In the Soviet Bloc, the Communist Party assigned political minders/ commissars to every school, factory, army unit, etc to ensure ideological compliance and loyalty to the regime. Hiring was based on class background and demonstrated loyalty.

Obviously, this is very different.
This new EO signed today appears to create DOGE as a shadow government across the entire federal government. Each agency/dept will be assigned a DOGE minder who will work with the Secry or Director and essentially be in charge of all new hiring and/or firing. People have been saying the Elon is ...
