Another ICE "assault" case unravels. Border Patrol and ICE are arresting US citizens and then after they find out that they are US citizens, they are charging them with "assault" to justify their actions. This is clearly DHS policy at this point. We've seen it repeatedly now.

I would add to this that traditional newsrooms employ lots of people to do forms of journalism that have value but are unlikely to be profitable as standalone products.
As more journalists are driven out of their jobs, I keep hearing this drumbeat of "it's ok -- they can start their own newsletter or publication." Some can. But becoming your own business is a huge job, and will eliminate many talented reporters from the public sphere. Here's why. (1/5)

I just participated in a meeting with faculty with research on LGBTQ issues, and the number of folks who have had their research grants eliminated in the past month is absolutely devastating. The negative consequences of destroying the research infrastructure for queer issues will be felt for years.

look it’s no secret that I don’t exactly have a high opinion of Christians, but it’s your right to believe whatever you want. however, if this shit moves the needle for you at all you should be given court mandated electroshock therapy.
i’m looking into what christian music is like these days and i am just baffled by it. this is a headline performance from the 2023 dove awards (basically the christian grammys) and it’s so insipid as to verge on self-parody

When I wrote my camps book, people sometimes had difficulty understanding how concentration-camp regimes were proud of what they were doing and wanted attention for it, even as they also hoped to keep many aspects secret and terrorize vulnerable classes. Anyway, this is what that looks like.
