I basically just use my account as a way to keep track of cool stuff I like.

So, if you like the sort of stuff I like, you'll probably like the stuff I (re)post!

We have passed a point of no return.

30 years ago I asked my dad how to fix a flat tire on my bike. It was one hour of work and $10 for all the parts I needed.

It was faster and cheaper than taking it to the bike shop, paying $200, and waiting a couple days.
We have passed a point of no return.

Yesterday I fixed the headlights in my car with ChatGPT. It was one hour of work and $10 for all the parts I needed.

It was faster and cheaper than going to the garage, paying $300, and waiting for ten hours.

This is also a good example of how D&D aficionados are real fickle fans. Yes you will get more eyes on your work if you connect it to D&D, but every accomplishment you make will be attributed to D&D even when you accomplish things in spite of it.

(Ex: the itemization in BG3 is nothing like 5e RAW)

A (quite) young movie lover said to me recently, "Not everybody can afford a DVD player," and I said "How much do you think a DVD player costs?"

He said, "I don't know, like $500?"

Those of us who advocate physical media are maybe not doing the best job of messaging.

If you want to do something like this, why not buy a $150k home in a small town in Italy, France, Spain, or Mexico, instead of having nine people share one bathroom after they eat at a restaurant called "Stinky's?"

Saying that the video games industry is in a really bad place right now is obviously true but I do think that by leaving it at just that, there's been some flattening of that conversation which tends to conflate two distinct phenomena.

AI bros going "haha! They admit AI made a good game!!" like it's a victory and not a labor rights nightmare.

I'm going to be honest. I do think art needs to be made deliberately, with care, by a human, to be art. I have a philosophical argument to make here.

However.

I care about people MORE.

And as others say: you want the placeholder to be obvious so you remember how to replace it
Sorry I think using AI for placeholders is also bad
¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I know you only care about finished art but placeholder art also needs to be made by a human being who also needs to be paid for that

But placeholder midjourney slop cuts that artist out

That's basically an awards show having trailers and announcements.

It's very apparent that "board games" can mean very different things to different people when one game feels the need to warn you that it can take up to 30 minutes to play, while another prides itself on being "quick playing" on the basis that a minimal two-player game should only take 2 to 3 hours.
