Merry Ninth Day of Christmas! And I completely zoned out that it's First Friday. Hopefully, others were able to go out and enjoy the art despite the negative temps 🥶

I would have a stack:

One Hundred Years of Solitude by Gabriel García Márquez;

Ceremony by Leslie Marmon Silko;

The Autobiography of Malcolm X;

War and Peace by Leo Tolstoy; and

The Beatitudes.
Ok, everyone, what book is sacred enough to you to get sworn in on?
Strange takes on Mayor Zamdani swearing his oath on the Qu’ran. It has nothing to do with church & state. The point of the oath is for the person swearing in to do so upon some text that is sacred TO THEM. Some Presidents swore in w/o any book. John Quincy Adams was sworn on a law book. His choice.

It's only the Eighth Day of Christmas?!? Seems like it's the Tenth or Eleventh, TBH. Anyways. Happy New Year's Day and, to all who celebrate it, a Merry Eighth Day!

Looking forward to another year of 🎥 FILMS 🎥
✨Announcing our JANUARY 2026 Criterion Channel lineup! ✨ Start the year off by savoring multiple levels of nostalgia with a survey of '90s cinema's riffs on the '70s, or turn a new page with a collection of films about dreamers seeking fresh starts in life.

Still hours away from midnight here in Alaska. But did enjoy the city's firework display from the comfort of our balcony 🎆🎇

Now settling in w/strawberries & a slice of cheesecake, a most generous glass of Underwood Rosé Bubbles, and my umpteenth viewing of THE THIN MAN (1934).
