From nothing, now a physicist and former Democratic nominee for Ohio's 16th Congressional District.
This is fucking madness and yet no Republicans will denounce it
And none of them will try to reign it in
And if they tried, the people they elevated would ignore them anyways.

Truly a fucking mad king and his mad little imp
TAPPER: Can you rule out the US is going to take Greenland by force?

MILLER: Greenland should be part of the US. By what right does Denmark assert control over Greenland? The US is the power of NATO

T: So force is on the table?

M: Nobody is gonna fight the US militarily over future of Greenland

This is insane.
OUT: Helping you pay for health care.

IN: Helping oil companies pay for their infrastructure in a foreign country.

I feel like the right gets a lot more representation from their reps than liberals do. Democratic politicians always want to apologize for being liberal, and Republicans don't mind being raging assholes and don't apologize for it.

Ain't this the fucking truth
amazing how the entire machine can pivot within 24 hours. no need to slowly upsell the argument; just issue new marching orders

I’m just a little surprised that Rubio didn’t say “vibes.”
STEPHANOPOULOS: Trump said the US is going to 'run Venezuela.' Under what legal authority?

RUBIO: We want a better future for the people of Venezuela

STEPHANOPOULOS: I'll ask again -- what is the legal authority?

RUBIO: We have court orders

great statement @reptedlieu.bsky.social
This is how you do it. No preamble to swear to God you don't like Maduro.

I want to help make a government that isn’t evil and works so well that you don’t really think about it
I don’t know exactly what I’m looking for in a politician but not having every day be a nightmare of horrors would be pretty high up so someone should run on that

Yep.
The silence from many media-hyped 2028 contenders today is shocking.

If you cannot oppose this regime change war for oil, you don't have the moral clarity or guts to lead our party or nation.

Happening now: several hundred people are pouring into Chicago's downtown Federal Plaza.

It's 25 degrees outside.

Organizers are leading the crowd in a chant of, "no boots on the ground, no bombs in the air!"

Two protesters hold a large banner reading, "no war for Venezuela oil."

was just telling my partner yesterday before the Venezuela shit that this is the most relatable meme on the planet and 24 hours later I'm still right
The year is 2003. I’m 17 years old. I’m watching Democrats fail to appropriately oppose an illegal war for oil.

This is how it's done. If incumbent Democrats won't do the job, their primary challengers can and will use this to make sure someone else does
The Republican Congress has chosen to give away its authority and power and now we are being told Trump plans to occupy Venezuela. We don't cry for Maduro. We demand the following of our laws and Constitution. He is already threatening Mexico and Cuba will be next. Ann Wagner is silent.

Members of Congress: stop posting online and APPEAR, PHYSICALLY on the steps of the Capitol to decry this unconstitutional violation of domestic & international law. SHOW THE PEOPLE the level of danger we are facing as a country.

This war and extra-judicial kidnapping is patently illegal and unconstitutional. Political leaders on both sides must condemn it. It’s not about whether Maduro is a tyrant but whether the US is still governed by laws and the Constitution. As if this morning, we are clearly not.

I just want to say for the record that when the history books are written centuries from now, I believe the election of Donald Trump in a free and fair election in 2024 will go down as one of the most senseless and self-destructive own goals in human history

I mean it's *always* unacceptable, the fact no one can afford life is kind of icing on the cake, not the thing that pushes this over the line
Taking over another country while Americans can't afford their rent and groceries is unacceptable. My statement on Trump's military actions in Venezuela.

Mark Kelly puts out a statement saying "The President of the United States just overthrew a foreign ruler and explained to the American people that this is about taking control of the oil reserves of a foreign nation." This is probably the strongest statement alongside Gallego's I've read.

What the people voted for. Rofl. Lol even.
Killing and kidnapping. At home and abroad.

The reason you go scorched-earth on this is the same reason we should have gone scorched-earth on impoundment; you can't stop it from happening, but you absolutely need to stop it from becoming a normal part of politics. You have to draw a line.

Im seeing discussions about consultations with congress, authorizations of force etc. I have to say this transcends any of what I would call sub constitutional technicalities. The president has gone to war with a foreign power and, it seems, kidnapped a foreign head of state on the basis of nothing.

Whether attempting regime change in Venezuela is smart or just is not the question. Many will try to make it the question.

The question is whether the President can start wars without the authorization of Congress. The question is whether the armed forces are still loyal to the Constitution.
