I am actually completely cool with this interpretation I love the idea of samus as an altruist-- but as a no-nonsense altruist who is utterly convinced of her own competence (and she's correct!). She hears a distress beacon and *takes charge*.
The entire fandom’s (and Retro Studios) initial assumption: “Oh she hunts down the baddest monsters in the galaxy and gets paid for it, right?”

Nintendo: “What? No. She’s like humanity’s motherly guardian. What are you talking about.”

This a big deal: "China’s carbon dioxide emissions have been flat or falling for 18 months"

China's economy has grown by ~5% in the last year, so this comprehensively debunks the idea (again) that emissions are tied to growth. So yes, faster progress needed, but this is how you turn the corner.

setting aside the demerits of democratic socialism and electoralism, if you believe socialism cannot succeed without a dotp, then prerequisite to a dotp, the people of that country must believe that the concept of "a state thats on OUR side" is possible
Rewatching Zohran's victory speech bit by bit and it's hard not to be emotional about it - it's an appeal to hope and courage but also to the fundamental idea of living in society, together. Feels like we've been starved, often deliberately, of that kind of thinking

arXiv will no longer accept review articles and position papers unless they have been accepted at a journal or a conference and complete successful peer review.

This is due to being overwhelmed by a hundreds of AI generated papers a month.

Yet another open submission process killed by LLMs.

This is not this fellow's fault but I'm tired of the "we" formulation with regards to all this shit. You & I have nothing to do with legalizing and tolerating Trump's crimes, but we know the people & political party who do. It behooves us to name them instead of assigning blame to everyone with "we"
A president who can tear down 1/3 of the White House can tear down the entire White House. A president who can steal $230M from the treasury can steal $1T from the Treasury. We have both legalized and tolerated Trump’s crimes, so they will only get bigger.

I think bsky is a good illustration of a principle that although the general tendency exists for a class to act in its own interest, at the case by case level we often see individuals and even organizations acting against their interests and the only explanation that gets offered is "they're stupid"
