Asked if Keir Starmer believes British people want to "see refugee children pulled out of school and deported after 10 years in this country”, his spokesman says that “what the British public wants and what this government was elected on a mandate to deliver was to secure our borders"

This is a new low from a govt plumbing the depths of performative cruelty in hopes that the public won’t notice they have no answers to the real issues facing this country

A sensible, humane govt would focus on safe routes to prevent people making dangerous small boat crossings

And when will UK catch up with Spain? After Brexit we were told we would be world beating.
"Spain’s rapid renewables build-out means its power prices were set by fossil generation just 19% of the time, down from 75% in 2019. As a result, wholesale electricity was almost a third cheaper than the EU average"

Imagine having cheaper power

Spain’s Renewable-Energy Boom Loosens Gas’s Grip on Power Prices
Soaring renewables output in Spain is weakening gas’s grip on electricity prices, setting the country apart from much of Europe where fossil fuels still dictate the cost of power.

Starmer's knack for making simple stories worse. Banning away fans from games is pretty common as this story says. Best not politicised, but he has to go there. Badly advised. www.theguardian.com/football/202...

An enterprising journalist needs to start reading out some of Maccabi Tel Aviv’s chants to Starmer and Badenoch and asking if they think they’re acceptable.

I've spent my life arguing against all football fans being tarred with the same brush, but to not even acknowledge that Maccabi Tel Aviv's far-right fans posed a threat to public order, and Birmingham's Muslims in particular, is next-level racist gaslighting
I never thought being pro-football-hooligan would become a mainstream political position in Britain but here we are.

When English clubs were barred from European competitions back in the day, nobody said it was "Anti-Christian" as I recall.

Anyway, why are Israel (a country in Asia) involved in European competitions (including The Eurovision Song Contest)?

The same goes for the most of Turkiye.

It was said at the time, but it needs saying again. If any British football fans had behaved as Maccabi Tel Aviv fans did in Amsterdam, or Israel fans in Paris and elsewhere, then the Government would be calling for bans, not trying to overturn one.

Maccabi Tel Aviv shouldn't even be competing in European football. Firstly they're not European and secondly the nation from which they come has been enacting a genocide for two years. Fuck Starmer and worship of all things racist.

Totally agree. These "fans" have a reputation for causing trouble like old school football hooligans. they are basically a bunch of racist thugs. The police have judged them to be a risk to public order and safety. Starmer is wrong and should be thinking about it over his friday night dinner.

If they force the police to overturn their decision and Maccabi fans do turn up and cause trouble on the streets of a country he's supposed to keep safe, how is that going to look? It seems he cares more about how the state of Israel sees him than those in the country he's in charge of

Increase in hourly pay since 1979: 32%

Just so happens that ~25% of workers were unionized in 1979. Today? 10%.

As unions declined, the super-rich have taken a larger share of wealth generated by labor. We must build back union power.
