THREAD: I'll fact-check all the viral misinformation about the US military operation in Venezuela in this thread

This image, purporting to show the US military arresting Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro, is AI-generated.

According to Google's SynthID detector, it was created using Google AI.

I am 63, so I have seen a lot of US military actions over those years. Some were good ideas, and some were not.

But this might be the most stupid, disgraceful, and lawless one on the list. It hurts the US and makes the world less safe, and for what?

Trump is a menace. To all of us.

Serious thing for folks to consider is, particularly for marginalized people, Grudges Are Self-Defense. What you may be interpreting as pettiness is probably closer aligned to "You have demonstrated you're not to be trusted." And knowing who REALLY has your back is more important that ever.
I feel in my bones that the wave has started to crash back in and Certain People/Companies who thought they were safe to abandon everyone they’d been pretending to care about will suddenly realize that those people have money/power and I, for one, will be holding a grudge until the end of time 💜

Last night after the swearing-in ceremony, Mira Nair was asked by reporters, "if she’ll be involved, helping give advice to her son.

Nair responded: “Of course, I’m going to be the mother of New York City.'"

Strange takes on Mayor Zamdani swearing his oath on the Qu’ran. It has nothing to do with church & state. The point of the oath is for the person swearing in to do so upon some text that is sacred TO THEM. Some Presidents swore in w/o any book. John Quincy Adams was sworn on a law book. His choice.

my one plea as we ring in the new year with Zohran being sworn in as mayor is to take some fucking wins

he’s not going to be perfect, there will be setbacks and disappointments, but take some joy and some pride in the good that comes out of this

good things are more durable when we celebrate them

This is true and I was the only one on set excited about it (and playing the song on my phone to blank stares)
Just watched the new Knives Out and I think it's really important you know that the scene in the Seminary's Gym is filmed in the same place Rick Astley filmed the music video for Never Gonna Give You Up.

I saw the window tracery and immediately made my friends pause the film so I could tell them.

This is the most interesting thing I've seen in ages. If intra-cellular membrane-less hydrogen ion gradients are biologically meaningful/useful things then so too might be membrane-less gradients of everything else - from bigger ions with discrete point-sources through protein complexes.
Organelles do NOT have a single uniform pH.
And if you think they must, because “protons diffuse fast,” this paper is for you.
A thread on why that assumption is wrong; and what we found instead. 🧵 1/n

In the summer of 1950 most US newspapers ran an AP story about how race had become the main issue in the upcoming Georgia governor's race. Segregationist Herman Tallmadge, governor from '47 to '55 and then a Senator until 1981 made a name for himself by refusing to "apologize for being a white man."
