Zen and the Art of Things Not Zen.
3 hours of plane delays and the final train possibility out of Manchester to Edinburgh last night.

Finally home bout half one last night.

Let’s see if the brain works well enough today to restart the year and be ready for DnD tonight. 🙃

The EU and UK should shut down X just as they shut down RT - and in fact I think it is likely that they will eventually. The question is, how much damage will be done by then?

Under the Treason Felony Act 1848, it is a crime punishable by life imprisonment to intimidate parliament or encourage any foreign power to invade the U.K.

We should be applying this law to every traitor openly calling for the U.S to depose our democratically elected government.

Last night’s flight off the Isle of Man cancelled due to weather.

So far this morning the airport is “open” but the runways don’t even look plowed.

Let’s see if our flight goes off this AM.

In our name, with our money, ostensibly for oil, but mostly because we have a president who's addicted to power and attention and needs to deflect from being friends with the world’s most famous pedophile. Shame on these fucking monsters who run my country. They need out.

I remain utterly embarrassed, dejected, and horrified at what’s become of the country of my birth.

The current president is one of the most abhorric people alive today.

When I start getting emails about “Check out these posts!” from long-forgotten forums/message boards after they’ve been sold to advertising agencies, the first thing I do is request GDPR information out of spite.

Then I proceed to full deletion.

It’s the little things that bring joy sometimes.

Some cities realise where the future lies. If trams in #Edinburgh are 'unwanted', 'unnecessary' and 'out-dated', why are so many new networks being built elsewhere?

“Car bloat”—increasingly oversized automobiles—worsens road safety, affordability and the environment.

Here are some of the stories I wrote in 2025 examining the trend and proposing solutions. 🧵

In @vox.com, I likened car bloat to secondhand smoke (which helped bring down the US tobacco industry).
Gigantic SUVs are a public health threat. Why don’t we treat them like one?
The anti-tobacco playbook could help turn the US public against their beloved oversized cars.

It was a very Merry Christmas Dawn Patrol yesterday morning.

8 of us met up for the usual route, added a side quest for a great zip line and some swings, and still finished bout 7:30 for some outdoor coffee outside our fav cafe as they were (quite rightly!) closed for the holidays.

10/10 Patrol.

Curlews on Marine Esplanade, red-breasted mergansers off Seafield, a seal before Portobello, and bar-tailed godwits, red shanks, turnstones, oystercatchers, and sanderlings all about in between.

Nice walk out to Porty today. How have I missed Aemillia before this?! That foccia lives rent free now.

Oh there it is.

Right above a photo of “A Deathtrap in Florida”, neat.

The photo isn’t even of the finished lane, so it’s missing all the broken pavers and current imperfections in the surface.

A review of STATS19 collision data on Rose Street: [1/?]
Living Streets Edinburgh Group is please to report that councillors have rejected council officer recommendations to encourage cycling on Rose St.
We've no objection to exempting cyclists from one-way restrictions in general but Rose Street is a special case which should never have been included.

Would you care to comment on this Royal Mail van, that looks like it habitually travels the wrong way on Rose St.? (5 secs into video)

Or the black SUV driving the length of the street for no apparent reason?

With SUVs 80% more likely to kill a child, what is real danger here?

Most planners I know are familiar with this playbook, and will also point out that democratically mandated public consultation processes are often manipulated to play into this, which is how we get watered down (or non existent) rather than transformative project outcomes.
Have you heard of “The Populist Playbook?”

A few years ago, I posted what I still consider one of my most important messages.

It was about “The Populist Playbook” that I’ve watched play out often over my 33+ years of city planning.

Since then, it’s only gotten worse.

Do the steps sound familiar?
