Zen and the Art of Things Not Zen.
Whenever I am on someone else’s device I’m horrified at what I see on the internet.

A Raspberry Pi + PiHole/PiVPN has been an absolute game changer on our network.

Have an automation to auto connect to my in-home VPN whenever I leave my own WiFi. 🤓

Starting to build up a collection of photos on different days / times to build up a case that apparently road safety doesn’t matter when it comes to parking near intersections.

First project: Commercial Street, at the lights next to the Aldi.

This is a @policescotland.bsky.social matter, yes?

165km / 102miles done for the day with the ride from Edinburgh to Galashiels & then the Wintersmith #1 Audax

The bitterly cold headwind only an issue for the last 55km - 6° out but made it feel as 1°C.

Body decent. Face hurts from windburn. Time to recover.

Fun day out!

Cycled the Fungle Road last year as part of the Pictish Trail.

Beautiful.

Unrelenting.

Planning on doing it again next year. 😅

Making it illegal for automobiles to have distracting screens like this cannot come soon enough.

If anyone is wondering why we want segregated cycle lanes and protection from drivers - giving them distraction pads like this is big on my list.

Let them crash into each other. Leave us out of it.

Literally having a discussion about Duddingston Low Road yesterday amongst cyclists about how HES has done all they could to discourage what could be an AMAZING active travel corridor with just the smallest of widening of the pavements.

Instead we have 75m of this.

A lovely evening at the Port of Leith Distillery - learning about the last year of the business + trying out the FIRST year of barrel aging for the spirit distilled right here in Leith!

Absolutely privileged to be here, and thankful for the opportunity.

Now to clear the head before Dawn Patrol. 🤣

Ironically, as I continued up towards Great Junction Street along the cycleway - an Argos delivery van appeared.

Right in the middle of the bike lane, blocking it in its entirety.

Their customer service line will be getting an email.

GJSt lights not working, but the footrest is super nice. 😁

Not sure if it’s officially officially open yet as the entrance on Dock Street still has fencing - but the Leith Connections section along Sandport has had all barriers removed and is a JOY to ride!

Want to ride along? 😁

Ironically … leave it to a delivery van to block the cycle lane as I’m riding up to use the very nice newly installed foot rest at the lights.

Yes, I’m emailing Argos about this.

The bike crossing light at Great Jct. St. doesn’t appear to be working just yet though!

For an example of what it used to look like often … I provide the following photo taken in August.

Think of the curbs you have to hop to just drop your car in these places. Boggles the mind people think this is OK to do.

In positive news, looks like Forth Ports have finally taken the time to block off the not-parking-but-treated-as-parking old pavilion and cobbled area of Rennie’s Lock near Teuchters & the Scot Gov. Building!

Well done, will be a much nicer area from here on out without dodging car storage!

Should we tell them?

I was going to post this from earlier. Yep. Just another day of car-nage on Elm Row.

@jackrmcaldwell.bsky.social you are getting tired of seeing all these, but more photos to add to the pile. Feel free to use them in any way to make action finally happen here.

Even @livingstreetsedi.bsky.social agrees.

Out walking as I like doing (not just cycling!)

Rainbows out in force today on the Leith Docks.

Only problem is … no rain.

SEPA told me the docks fell into “maritime” jurisdictions and they don’t have any real remit here as far as incidents go.

Anyone here with experience care to chime in?

Looks like the internet has found out too.
November 4, 2025 at 12:44 PM
It seems the concerns regarding cyclist & pedestrian crashes with floating bus stops can be answered with the data: incidents with the schemes already in place within the city are slim to none.

Even Living Streets Edi seems to agree. (Pg. 27 of meeting: democracy.edinburgh.gov.uk/documents/b2...

Morning Commuters: Warriston Path just before/past Coalie Park has had a tree down in just the past half hour!

Browsing Vinted (I’ve picked up some brilliant cycling kit on it this year) and it’s always amazing how many counterfeit items you come across.

Especially for Patagonia.

Let’s see if Vinted takes down this particular egregious listing where the tag states: “The Chinese logo shall prevail” 🤣

Really enjoying the morning sunshine on the heather on my terrace this morning.

At least until the clouds decide to come in 0.42 seconds after I post this.

In today’s whinge about traffic, parking, adhering to rules and the like I have this lovely specimen.

Huge lorry. Mounting pavement. Blocking bike lane. Blocking pavement. Unloading a pallet.

Not shown is the speed of travel while ON the pavements/bike lane the fellow was driving before dropping.

Master Chief edition already done. 😂
